Thanks Chris for showing that the two Damian’s were two different people. Although they were both born in 1820, they both had wives with the surname Gutierrez, and both had sons named Gregorio, there were two differences that stood out. Damien’s wife was named María De Jesus Gutierrez while Damian’s wife was named María Francisca. The other big difference was that the two Gregorio Gomez y Gutierrez were born more than a decade apart. A third difference was that one repeatedly came up in the records as Damian, while the other came up Damien.

I have noticed the variation in the spelling of Damian's first name on different records. Interesting.

Thank you both!

Dear Arlene,

I don’t want to steer you down the wrong path so please check your information before adding the data that I am providing you. I don’t have the wife of Damian GOMEZ as María De Jesus. I have her name as María Francisca Gutierrez. The Damian Gomez that I am writing about may not be the same Damian Gomez that you have in your family tree but much of the information that you provided fits with this Damian Gomez. José Damian Gomez and María Francisca Gutierrez have a son named Jose Gregorio Gomez. This José Damian was born at the same year as your Damian Gomez. This family has another Gomez ancestry so the Gomez Portugal could possibly come from that line.

José Gregorio Gómez bap.17/Nov/1842, son of Damian Gomez (30/sep/1820) and Francisca Gutierrez, paternal grandparents Ygnacio Gomez and María De la Cruz Garcia; maternal grandparents are Lorenzo Gutierrez and María Cecilia Torres.

Ygnacio Gómez is the son of Jose Gomez and María Josefa

María De la Cruz García is

Dear Cynthia,

Francisco Romo and Lorenza Ruiz De Esparza were not past 60 when their daughter Josepha was born. Lorenza was baptized in 1654 so she was 35 when her daughter Josepha baptized in 1689. Francisco was a little older as I have him as being born in the mid 1640’s.

Josepha and her husband Geronimo had many children. Their son Jose Gavriel Rosales Romo married his cousin Leonor Ruiz De Esparza.

Lorenza Ruiz De Esparza did not use the surnames of her parents. She was named after her maternal grandmother, “Lorenza Ruiz De Esparza.” You may have confused the two women and that is why you have Josepha’s mother as being much older.

Thanks Rick for posting the info. It is easy to get confused when the same names are used generation after generation, and the same person uses different last names in different documents - these are the challenges I face when doing research.

Hi Bill and Rick

According to Jamie Holcombe's family group sheet on Diego Alonso Ramirez de Hermosillo, Diego Alonso had a son Diego Alonso Gonzalez de Hermosillo who married Juana Aldrete on 19 Feb 1669. I descend from Diego Alonso Gonzalez' brother Andres Munoz de Hermosillo aka Andres Gonzalez de Hermosillo.

In the marriage dispensation book of Maria de la luz Montejano Hilton on page 208 entry 1107 mentions the son of Diego Alonso Gonzalez, Cayetano Bernardo de Hermosillo y Aldrete and has Diego Alonso listed as Diego Ildefonso Gonzalez de Hermosillo husband of Juana de Aldrete. I have it broken down that Cayetano Bernardo is the grandson of Diego Alonso Ramirez de Hermosillo.

So there are two Diego Alonsos, the father Ramirez de Hermosillo and the son Gonzales de Hermosillo.

Hola prim@s,

After years of believing them to be the same couple, I recently figured out that they weren’t. I had them living between Real de los Angeles, and Las Letras, moving from one hacienda to the other. But upon looking at the 1764 and 1765 Pinos padrones, I found Diego Carrillo and Maria Diaz living on Letras, and in the same padrones, Francisco Carrillo and Maria Guadalupe, living on Angeles. So, they weren’t the same couple!

Diego Carrillo married Maria Diaz de Leon on 10 Aug 1728, in Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jal. They would live on Letras, just northwest of Ojuelos de Jalisco. From a dispensation for their granddaughter, Gertrudis de Silva, we know that Maria Diaz de Leon is the daughter of Joseph Diaz de Leon and Antonia Delgadillo. Hola Manny:

I found this while looking for something else and I thought it appropriate to share here.

It is for a merced (land grant) given to Don Juan Antonio Villalpando in 1762 (I think).

“…en dicha ciudad a los 17 de marzo pasado de este corriente año, en que hizo merced a Don Juan Antonio Villalpando y sus consortes vecinos de los Asientos de 36 caballerías, y tres cuartos de otra que resultan realengas en el Puesto de Tepezalá de la misma jurisdicción…”

And elsewhere, I found a map that I believe shows the above mentioned merced near Tepezalá. There is also a signature from a Pedro Joseph de Billalpando on the page.

Hi Glenn

Thanks for the tip!

Looking forward to checking out the links!

I think Don Juan Antonio may be a sibling of Rosalia VIllalpando, but I am not sure. I do know that she did have a brother named Antonio. If that is the case, Don Juan Antonio would be a great grandson of Thomas Villalpando and first wife Maria de Vargas. Pedro Joseph is a grandson of Thomas V. and second wife Maria Xaen y Esparza. This Thomas Villalpando had 15 children with two wives. Quite a clan he established! I hope to eventually establish if Juan Antonio is the same as Antonio brother of Rosalia. Just to get it all straightened out!

I am ploughing through the info matrs for the 1720's Asientos and I will eventually tackle the 1730's. I post Villalpando/Fernandez de Villalpando entries when I come across them, and anything with the name Aguila, and any Santiagos that might relate to Rosalia's maternal grandfather Juan de Santiago.

I think the info matr for Sebastian de el Aguila and Maria Thereza Lopez de Nava is not in Asientos, but I decided to finish what I started with that decade (the 1720's) before looking elsewhere. I have learned that a lot of residents came from other places like Guananjuato and Zacatecas, and even a few from Mexico City. And there was a LOT of intermarriage between the castas - which has helped me understand my gene pool! (did a DNA test in 2017). I already found the title of a book on that subject which I may read....

I came across documents regarding a case of dispute over a promise of marriage. The man involved is named Marzelo Antonio Nepumoceno Villalpando. He declares that he does not, after all, want to marry Maria del Carmen Lopez, (even though he admits to “illicit amistad”) She contests this. In his declaration he mentions the following:
His father - Manuel Villalpando
His brother in law - Diego de Aguila, living in Tepezala
His uncle - Miguel Villalpando

His father is further identified at the beginning of the document as Joseph Manuel Villalpando.
Here is a link to the first image where case is mentioned:

Denise,

I also descend from the Villalpando family in the Aguascalientes-León area. My sixth great grandmother was Da. Josefa Gertrudis de los Reyes Fernández de Villalpando y Méndez Hidalgo, Ponce de León, baptized in Sierra de Pinos on 16 January 1762. Notice how there is "Fernández" preceding "de Villalpando." I have reason to believe my Fernández de Villalpando and the Villalpando families are one in the same. I would love to compare notes and see where we can piece this together.

Josefa was daughter of Capt. José Nolasco Fernández de Villalpando, who served as teniente general de Sierra de Pinos and according to a dispensa dated 7 de enero de 1753 he appears as a witness and is said to be "dueño de las Minas y haciendas de Villapando." I have never found exact names for these haciendas, but it is interesting that the scribe denoted this. His wife was Manuela Méndez-Hidalgo y Ponce de León, her family is from the San Luis Potosí area, but won't focus on that. The couple would

Thank you Denise!

This is definitely my 7th great grandfather, I knew he was much older than his second wife, my ancestor, Manuela Méndez Hidalgo y Ponce de León who would have married ca. 1750 either Asientos (I am currently going thru these) or possibly in Pinos or even in San Luis Potosi.

María Gertrudis Anastasia was in fact baptized in Mexico City, D.F. on 23 Aug 1705 a daughter of Gabriel Ruiz de la Fuente y Saldaña (same Ruiz de la Fuente family of Aguascalientes) and his wife Juana de la Rosa Rojo from Guadalajara. I have no idea why they would have moved to Mexico City, but this family moves around quite a bit before returning to Asientos to marry their daughter into the Fernández de Villalpando family.

As I am going thru these Asientos marriages, there are some notable individuals. One of them being Nicolás Pérez Calvillo y Romo de Vivar who married secondly to Magdalena del Castillo y Alemán on 23 May 1746. Nicolás declares he is a widower of Da. Ana Fernández de Villalpando. Here's the link:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-67YS-ZXJ?i=474&cc=1502…

Could she also be a daughter of Tomás de Villalpando y Vargas and María de San Juan Serrano and thus a sister of my José Nolasco Fernández de Villalpando? For whatever reason, this line uses Fernández de Villalpando while the rest of the Villalpando family keeps the short version. So many questions...

The "información matrimonial" for Tomas de Villalpando and Maria de Vargas is found here:

After having written this message I noticed that much of the info had already been published by Daniel Alejandro Mendez de Torres in an article titled "Archivos Parroquiales de Aguascalientes, Siglo XVII".

Tomas de Villalpando & Maria de Vargas were married in 1677 and baptized several sons and daughters in Aguascalientes. In the following notes, M stands for marriage, B for baptism and E for burial.

Thanks for posting the info from Daniel Mendez de Torres! There are a lot of names, some of them are familiar. I have been comparing that list with what I have in my notes - its a lot of info and somewhat confusing at times!

I too have found out that some info from the Info Matrimoniales I have been going through has already been posted/published (but not indexed). A great source of such info is the Wiki tree of the Lope Ruiz de Esparza family and descendents. I can see that one of the managers of the tree (or parts of it) is Danny C Alonso. As an example, here is a link to the wiki info (and from there to the tree) for Isabel Luisa Serrano, the wife of Andres Romo de Vivar, son of Capt Juan Romo de Vivar:

Hi Bernardo

THanks again for posting the info from Daniel!

I can see there is an ANtonio and an trying to connect it with the other villalpandos i found - but no luck so far.

I went through Info Matr for Asientos for these years:
1705 - 1709
1715 - 1721 (checked up through februar 1719, image 437 - they had a child in 1718)

THERE IS a gap from 1710 - 1714...don't know what to do about that....

I did not find Antonio Villalpando and Maria Chaires.

I did find an entry for Antonio Villalpando in George Fulton's list over Info Mats for Aguascalientes, but there are two problems:
1) padre no conocido for Antonio
2) pretenza is not name Maria Chaires, but Ana Lopez.

So its back to square one.I think first I will try to find the marriage for the above named couple, even though it is (probably) not them.

Hi Bernardo

George Fulton already found the info linking Antonio Villalpando and Maria de Chaire to Thomas Villalpando from Leon!

He replied earlier this year to a post from 2013 (better late than never!) with information on how to find his file on the Villalpando family, originally uploaded to NR in 2011 - here is the link to his file:

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/system/files/private/active/5/Tomas%20de…

Go down to Generation 3, #5 - That's Antonio and there is a footnote where to find the Information Matrimonial regarding his marriage to Maria de Chaire:

Really great news Denise!

I had some difficulty finding the Dispensa, it seems the Auto was somehow separated from the rest (Petición, Declaraciones, etc.) and is all I have found (images 325-327):

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6QRS-1ZR?i=324&wc=M6QF…

Anyway, it is enough for what we wanted, to link with Tomas from León. It is stated that Antonio de Villalpando was the son of Thomas de Villalpando and Maria de León and María de Chaire was the daughter of Nicolas de Chaire and Margarita Lopez. Wish we had the rest, to see the relation between them, an "impedimento de tercer grado de consanguinidad".

Thanks to you and to George Fulton for his help! All the info from Joseph Manuel backwards had already been researched by George, but you made the link to Antonia Rosalía, great work!

Gracias,

Comment

Your're welcome Bernardo!

Thanks for providing the link to the image...you are right, there are some parts missing. But still, as you pointed out, the most important thing is that it documents a connection between Rosalia Villalpando and the Villalpando family well-researched by George Fulton. Strange to think I would never have gotten this far if you had not posted on Rafael Romo, and figured out he was aka Rafael Femat. The story of all his wives kind of haunts me. And then there is the mystery (not yet solved) of why he and Justa Rafaela Aguila identified themselves as coyotes....The Aguila line is what I will probably work on next.

The date for the Villalpando dispensa in my p.s. is 23 April 1800, the film roll number is 168617 and here is the citation from FS:

"México, Jalisco, registros parroquiales, 1590-1979," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-6593-FG?cc=1874591&wc=3JW2… : 28 June 2014)

Comment

Denise,

Thank you for the link, it's a Villalpando-Villalpando marriage with severeal generations, quite interesting.

On the other hand, as to the reason why Justa Rafaela and Rafael Femat identified as coyotes we can only speculate. If Armando is correct about a Tlaxcalan connection with the de Aguila surname then maybe Justa Rafaela was indeed a coyote or another casta. If you compare this información matrimonial with the one for Rafael Femat and Ana María López, you'll see that Rafael and Justa Rafaela did not need the consent of their fathers (at least it is not mentioned) whereas Rafael and Ana María López got parental permission. Rafael Femat stated he was "español" and Ana María López stated she was "mestiza". Why did the priest of Ojo Caliente ask both of them to get the consent of their fathers? was it only because it was his usual practice? was it because they were from different "castas"?

Maybe Rafael identified as coyote to make it less likely he should need his father

Mariana de Heredia (or Vargas), wife of Francisco de Leon and mother of Maria de Heredia (or Vargas or de Leon, wife of Tomas de Villalpando), was the daughter of Simon Garcia de Leon and Maria de Heredia.

According to wikitree, Simon García de Leon had a brother named Bartolome and a sister named Isabel, and their parents were Juan Garcia de Leon and Mariana de Vargas. Juan García de Leon and Mariana de Vargas had been residents of Celaya.

You cand see info on these persons in "Archivos Parroquiales de Aguascalientes, Siglo XVII" by Alejandro Mendez and, in the Files section of Nuestros Ranchos, in "An Updated Genealogical Look at the 1648 Padron of Aguascalientes, Mexico".

Comment

Hi Bernardo

Thanks for the info - I will look more closely at it over the weekend. It is especially interesting in light of the fact that there are Aguilas connected to Celaya in the late 1600's - early 1700's. As I wrote earlier, the Aguila line is my focus at the moment, so I have been researching where there were in Mexico in this time period, using the indexed material in FS, although of course there's lots of stuff not indexed - but I have to start somewhere! And there are resources in Wikitree and here in NR I will check through too - Danny, Austin Perez, Christopher de Cuellar, and George Fulton have already done a mountain of work on lines relevant for Raphael Femat and Rafaela de el Aguila. I think its very exciting to be getting so far back in time with Mariana de Vargas' parents. And I definitely look forward to reading that source about reading lines on the hand!

Hi Danny,

Yes, if I find Fresnillo records, of course I will post here in NR.!

Juan de el AGUILA, a person I am researching (trying to confirm or rule out if he is aka Sebastian de el Aguila) lived in FRESNILLO before he moved to ASIENTOS. This is noted in his record of marriage with Maria Lopez de Nava in 1724.

Dn Sebastian de el Aguila was married to Dna Maria Thereza LOPEZ DE NAVA and their son was Dn. Diego Xavier de el Aguila. In his info matr., Dn.Diego states that he is from Asientos and from another doc I read, I know that he had a house at Tepezala in 1759.

Are Juan de el Aguila and Sebastian de el Aguila the same person??? That is what I want to find out.

I am trying to find the info matrimonial for Dn. Sebastian de el Aguila and dna Maria Thereza Lopez de Nava, to see if he is identified as just Sebastian or Juan Sebastian and/or if he states he ever lived in Fresnillo. As for Maria Thereza, if she states that that she lived in HUEHUCAR that would also make it more

Hi Denise,

I also have some pieces that may assist you, I have the following:

Diego Narciso López de Nava y Mayorga, son of Joaquín López de Nava and Josefa Romo de Vivar, born in Huejúcar (Calvillo, Aguascalientes) was married on 30 Sep 1748 in Asientos to Agustina Brigida Serrano Hernandez.

Josefa López de Nava y Mayorga is mentioned as the deceased wife of Antonio Serrano y Gentil Gallardo when he marries secondly to Inés de Avila y Elizalde on 2 Jan 1744. I am not sure who the parents of Josefa, but have her as a possible sister of Diego Narciso López de Nava, since both used Mayorga as well and was from Huejúcar both in the Asientos area.

Another sibling would be Andrés María López de Nava, baptized on 14 Mar 1728 in Las Pilas, Asientos, Ags. who married Ana Catarina Lozano de Gardea y Castorena on 2 Jun 1754 in El Sagrario, Aguascalientes, Ags. Their children would marry into the Díaz de León and Rincón Gallardo families.

I had seen Pedro Nolascos name in indexed records (the baptism) and then also his parents names in the death record of his sister Juana (who was married to Joseph Romo de Vivar) - and noted the Aguila connection. I'd like to see who the padrinos were for Pedro's baptism. It's interesting to note the presence of the Aguilas in Zacatecas - yet another place to look for the information I need.

I suspect that Diego de el AGUILA's mother (Dna Maria Thereza LOPEZ DE NAVA) is the sister of Gabriel Lopez de Nava, and if I can make that link it would be great since that family (Gabriel's) is well-documented several generations back from there by Danny C. Thanks again for the information you provided here in your reply of 7 August 2018 to my post, “Fresnillo records 1700s” from 5 august 2018.

The names are very interesting! Trying to connect them with information I have. I re-read the IM for Diego Xavier de Aguila and Rosalia de Villalpando - it’s mostly about the case against him brought by the brothers of the other girl he had promised to marry (and had a child with). This girl’s name is PAULA MARGARITA LOPEZ DE NAVA. Here are the other names and relationships I was able to pull out of the records:

Villapando Vielma Xaen Arias in Leon Guanajuato

Hi

For those of you researching any links between the surnames in the subject line, I found this baptism in the records from

Sagrario, Leon, Guanajuato:

Hello Everyone,

While looking at some documents related to the Holy Inquisition in Mexico... I ran across a document which mentions Alonso de Villalpando and Faustina Arias:

Proceso contra Diego Fernandez del Toro por Blasfemo - Maravatio (1581)

It's somewhat difficult to read given the Spanish paleography of the period. I am able to make out some names and that Alonso and Faustina were Espanoles neighbors of Maravatio.

By the way, please check on www.valladoliddispensas.com for Villalpando dispensas/informacion matrimoniales when you get a chance. I think that there's 2 or 3 at least that we've turned up.

Hope it helps.

I did find the name Olaer in a document:

I have never seen the surname Olaer, but this record does show the father as Dn. Joseph Manuel "OLAES." This record may help in two ways: 1) There were other marriages between Villalpando and Olaes in Leon in the mid 1600s (for our group) and 2) I descend from the Ponce de León from San Luis Potosi, and did find a couple who kept going back and forth from Lagos and SLP which may connect here somewhere. I have been trying to see if my Ponce de León line, the one from Lagos de Moreno and the line from Morelia all connect somehow.

Hi Daniel

Thanks for your input!

I am glad you can read it as Olaes, since I have already seen other Olaes and Olaez in the book of Leon baptisms I am going through. "Olaes" makes better sense.

"S" and "Z" are a very different sound than "r" so I do not understand how a priest could just spell it wrong in Asientos.

So far, I have seen Olar for two different individuals in Asientos (maybe sisters?) and two records from Spain in FS digital records.

I would not spent so much time on this except it may be the only way I can link Antonio de Aguila (from Asientos and before that, Fresnillo) to Leon, as he was married to a woman with the surname Olar. My big project now is to find the parents of Antonio and Juan Sebastian de Aguila - I do not believe they were brothers, but perhaps cousins or uncle and nephew.

As for the Villalpando Vielma Xaen Arias links, I am wondering if Francisco Xaen is related to the Xaens of Aguascalientes...given there is a Ruiz de Esparza married to Vielma

Hi Denise,

I hope the following provides some guidance.

Martín de Oláez or Olaes married Isabel Cortés Briseño in León on 14 Jun 1638. If I remember correctly, the parents are not mentioned this early in these marriages. They had the following children, including my ancestor:

1. Juana Cortés Briseño baptized 1 Jul 1655 who would have married Juan de Saavedra (might be related to the Saavedra Guzmán from Lagos de Moreno).

Interestingly, Lucía first married Diego de la Mota y Padilla, had some children from her prior marriage in Leon, move to Jalisco and produce the Mayorazgos de la Mota in Guadalajara.

3. Ursula de Oláez Briseño married Juan de Villalpando, son of Juan de Villalpando and Francisca on 1 Aug 1672 in León. I have not been able to connect these Villalpandos to our line quite yet, but would think they are closely related as they are all in León. They had at least one son:

Comment

My ancestor Lucía Flores de la Torre would marry one of the Oláez children. This is the branch that went to Guadalajara thru the López de la Mota.

In regards to your point regarding these three families, I have thought the exact same thing. Here are some loose ends that I hope to connect one day.

I think María de Bielma possibly used her mother's name, she would have married Nicolás de Villalpando who I have noted as Alcalde Ordinario de León and had at least the following children:

1. María de Villalpando y Bielma baptized on 15 Sep 1646 - León. Her godparents: Francisco de Jaén e Inés Arias.

2. José de Villalpando y Bielma baptized on 21 Jul 1658 - León

Not sure how Nicolás connects to the Villalpando trunk yet. Inés Arias probably belongs to the Arias de Bedoya family from Zamora, Michoacán, I also descend from them.

There is also another loose end Diego de Villalpando who married Isabel Lozano de Gardea. This Villalpando line would produce the Nochistlán line and successively the Jalostotitlán line of the villalpandos.

Then there is that Juan de Villalpando who married a Francisca and had Juan de Villalpando who

Hi Danny

Thanks for the info! I am slowly working my way through the baptismal records for Leon 1600s...I will keep an eye out for these surnames, in addition to Aguila and Villalpando and Olar. During the week I dont have much time, so I look forward to the weekend to hopefully make some progress.

Hi Daniel

So many good tips! Thanks!
I
Note: I came across the baptism of Marcos Villalpando son of Marcos Villalpando and Maria Lopez. (I posted it elsewhere here in NR, having overlooked you had aldready put it here). It is the 10th of May, however, the year is 1681 (not '85) . You may want to check your records.

I made it through over 100 records of baptism and not a single Aguila...Very frustrating I can't get records from Fresnillo for the 1600s!

Not sure what to do next, except maybe try to puzzle out the Lopez de Navas named in Diego de Aguilas info mat and find out how they link with other Lopez de Navas. (Paula Lopez de Nava and her father, and someone named Cornelio Lopez de Nava.)

It appears the Villalpando family held lands in and out of Guanajuato. It appears this Jusepe de Villalpando was a relative of the hacendado. Some other sources I have are the following:

“Juan Villalpando recibió como merced del Cabildo de la villa de León tres caballerías. Pedro Medel recibió otras tantas de la misma autoridad, que después vendió a Villalpando en $100 el 10 de febrero de 1610.” Haciendas de Guanajuato by Isauro Rionda Arreguín

In 1610 Juan de Villalpando had received three caballerías from the city council and then purchased the land that belonged to Pedro Medel, without doubt in my mind this Pedro Medel

Comment

Wow thats cool that you know exactly where to look for these things. I'm still going through all the baptismals for the years up to 1694 when my Vialpando's migrated to New Mexico. The land patent that they owned in New Mexico my cousins still have the rights to and use the land for grazing. They got it in the late 1800's. did you come across any in Jerez? I looked through all the baptismals they had for when Ambrosio should have been born and did not see one sigle Villalpando. I came across a place also in Leon called Cerrito de Jerez. I'm wondering if this is the Jerez that the marriage record was refrencing.

The matrimonial investigation of Tomas de Villalpando in 1677 (in Aguascalientes) begins as follows:

7em 4 1677

This document is for his marriage with Maria de Vargas.

The Thomas who is getting married would have been born about 1650/55, and his father Tomas, I estimate, would have been born about 1620.

I would like to know if, and how, Tomas de Villalpando is related to the Villalpandos mentioned in the prior postings.

George,

This is really interesting, thank you for sharing.I will also repost part of my last message, “Juan Villalpando recibió como merced del Cabildo de la villa de León tres caballerías. Pedro Medel recibió otras tantas de la misma autoridad, que después vendió a Villalpando en $100 el 10 de febrero de 1610.” Haciendas de Guanajuato by Isauro Rionda Arreguín. So if this Juan de Villalpando bought land in 1610, I will assume he was an adult as a landowner maybe born around 1580 or so. Could this Juan de Villalpando be the father or grandfather of our Tomas de Villalpando married to Maria Velez who had the Tomas de Villalpando who moved to Aguascalientes?

From the date range in which I estimate Tomas (who married Maria de Veles) could have been born, this is a possibility. But I have no evidence.

Tomas de Villalpando and Maria de Veles could have been married in the first part of the 1650s, or possibly earlier. This may be in the Leon marriage records, but I haven't looked at these records yet.

You must have posted this just as I was posting my finding. The May 16, 1680 record has very little detail.

I wonder what the reference is for the Somos Primos citation. The image I found (image 31) does not have this level of detail; the records on the previous page are from Jan and Feb 1680.

I found this below in a website called "GuadalajaraGuadalajara.com-Efemerides".

"1714. Muere el pintor Cristóbal de Villalpando o Tomás de Villalpando, quien dejó varios murales en la Sala de Cabildo de Catedral y en el Museo."
My husband's ancestors Diego De Vialpando and Ysabel Losano had a son named Xptoval .born in November of 1679 in the capital city of Aguascalientes.
Do you think this is the same one that was the painter, and is he the same one who was the father of the Tomas who married Veles?

From what I can discern Cristobal was born about 1645, in Mexico City, was married had had four children. I've not seen the names of his spouse and children.

Your Diego, and the Tomas's, were contemporaries, but a relationship, if any, is unknown at present.

Some references on Cristobal:
Juana Gutiérrez Haces et al., Cristóbal de Villalpando: ca. 1649–1714 (1997), is a catalogue raisonné (ie, complete list of his works).
Villalpando’s life and work are treated in Manuel Toussaint, Colonial Art in Mexico (1967); and
Marcus B. Burke, Treasures of Mexican Colonial Painting: The Davenport Museum of Art Collection (1998).

I took a quick look in the first volume of Leon marriages (1636-1787) to see if there was any mention of Tomas de Villalpando and Maria de Veles.

The beginning of the volume is in pretty bad shape, and appears that a substantial number of pages are missing. There is very little from the 1630s, a little from the 1650s.

I found only two records of interest:

image 31: Marcos Villalpando and Maria Lopez, Espanoles, married 16 May 1680.

image 41: Francisco de Candelas married Catharina de Villalpando (daughter of Nicolas de Villalpando and Juana de Resina Vallesilla [I'm not sure if Vallesilla is part of the name], married 23 Jan 1689.

Tomas is not mentioned in either of these documents.

There is a Juan Manual de Villalpando, son of Tomas de Villalpando, bap. 27 Dec 1690, in Aguascalientes. He married in 1715, in Asientos, Maria Eugenia de Narbais. I think he was born too soon to be your Juan Manuel Villalpando (he would have been 67); although he could be the same. I have no death dates or other family information on Juan Manuel and Maria Eugenia. I do not know if he had other wives.

This is not impossible as Juan de Santiago y Escobar married his 3rd wife at age 64, and had at 10 children that I can document with her (he also had lots from his first two wives!) All of this is documented.

Tomas Villalpando is married in Aguascalientes and is found later to be residing in Guanajuato. He is a contemporary of my ancestor, Gabriel Villalpando who marries Leonor Sepulveda in Aguascalientes. Their son, Jose Manuel Villalpando moves to Nochistlan, Zacatecas where he marries Josepha Beatriz Rodriguez Bajo y Ponce.

Diego Villalpando, (Gabriel's father) and Tomas are most likely related but we do not know how closely at this time. Diego

Tepatitlan and Jalostotitlan are close, about 40 minutes apart, but the two Main Villalpando branches are not closely related unless it is through the Ponce lines.

Hello Laura, We may have common relative in Jose Maria Villa(early 1800's). I have him as my 5th great grandfather. Then there's his son, also Jose Maria Villa. Then his son Sostenes Villa born in "El Ojo de Agua de Los Solis". Let me know if you think we link up. I still don't have the two Jose Maria's birthplaces but I'm betting they're from around the same area.
Take Care,

Medinilla de Alvarado Clues

While I was paging through some of the notary records from Guadalajra, I stumbled upon a couple of entries relating to the Medinilla de Alvarado family.

His first marriage was to Teresa Suarez De Moscoso y Figueroa There was only one daughter from this first marriage, Isabel Suarez Alvarado De Figueroa, who married her cousin, Alonso Hernandez De Moscoso y Figueroa. Alonso and Isabel are the parents of Catalina De Alvarado y Figueroa who married Pedro Venegas y Quesada.

Richard,

Thank you for providing these examples of documents in varios registries in PARES, what a wealth mine of information! I'll need to review these documents over the next few weeks and see what additional information I can find on the line. It would be interesting to see if we can work on the family line in Granada. The fact we know that the father was a oídor, can help us pinpoint further clues as to their ancestry. Regarding your Ibarra line, we are also related here. Antonio de Ibarra and Francisca de Gabay, Montes de Oca or Esparza (she used several names) are my 10th great grand uncle and aunt. I descend from Francisca's parents: Francisco Sánchez Rodríguez y Montes de Oca and Ana Tomasina Ruiz de Esparza. Here is their marriage record; you may have it already.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for sharing this information and for starting a new thread on this family. Andrés Vanegas de Torres and Isabel de Medinilla are my 10th great grandparents on my mother's side. We descend from their daughter Ana Juliana Vanegas de Torres y Medinilla who was baptized on 28 Feb 1625 in Guadalajara. She married Fernando de Soto y Agredano ca. 1640, probably in Guadalajara and had numerous children. This line is interesting as their children would marry into the Ladrón de Guevara, Gómez de Aguilar, González de Rubalcaba, and Martínez de Basurto, just to name a few familiar names.

Do you have a source for Andrés Vanegas de Torres, from Granada? And any children he may have baptized? I was not aware of this, then again, I haven't been able to dedicate too much time to this line. As far as the link with Isabel, it is very interesting. The timeline, name and place fits. We'll need to find a dispensa, marriage or civil record that clearly establish the link between the

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for sharing about the Soto Agredano, they seem like an interesting family! I came across Fernando in one of the protocolos too and wanted to pass it along. The following page has his signature:

With regard to Andres Venegas de Torres there are a number of documents on PARES. If you search "Andres Venegas" between 1500 and 1650 you should be able to find them. There is an inventario de bienes in the Audiencia de Mexico section listing the many offices he held and that he was a native of Granada. In the Casa de la Contratación section there is his petición dated 1576 which lists his father as Lic. Antonio de Venegas, abogado of the Real Audiencia of Granada, and Dna Francisca de Torres. The digitized images also state his paternal grandparents were Rodrigo de Venegas and Isabel de Alcazar. He came over as a criado of Ruy Diaz de Mendoza, the tesorero of Mexico City. Here is another document with Joseph de Medinilla and Ysabel de Medinilla, partial owners of the houses that Pedro de Medinilla y Alvarado left, after his death. It looks like it says that the houses belonged to them as per the lawsuit that they brought against their uncle, Hernando de Alvarado, regarding the inheritance of Beatriz de Medinilla difunta, who died intestate? It’s dated 15 May 1637:

Hi Manny,

Thanks for adding these documents! The permission for Isabel de Medinilla Alvarado to sell a slave is the first time that I have seen her registered with the Alvarado, so that makes me believe even more that the Isabel de Medinilla Alvarado mentioned with Jose de Medinilla Alvarado is probably the same person as the one who married Andres Venegas de Torres.

Also, thanks for posting the testamento of Juana Bautista. The parish records I had looked at never mentioned her family name, so its great to know who her parents were and confirm that she was married to Andres Venegas de Torres the escribano.

I will also post anything else I find. I am currently going through Andres Vanegas de Torres's protocolos for the years 1619 and 1621.So far I haven't seen very many testamentos. I did find Francisco Bufreo Camarena's testamento though:

AYUDA WITH ROMO AND FEMAT ANCESTORS

Dear fellow genealogists (amateur or professional). My name is Bernardo Menchaca from Monterrey (now living in Monclova, Coahuila) and am researching my Romo ancestors.

Hi Bernardo

I just figured out that two Femat sibliings married two Romo siblings:

Antonio Fermin Femat and Monica Romo de Vivar

Isabel Femat and Salvador Romo de Vivar.

Antonio and Isabel are the children of Fermin Antonio Femat and Barbara Gonzales Aguirre.

Monica and Salvador are the children of Nicolas Romo de Vivar and Maria Villalobos.

You provided the info on Monica RV and Antonio Femat.

The info on Isabel and Salvador is in an Info Matr. from Asientos 1716:

GS film #1410796 image 210

I came across it by chance while browsing through the images.

I did a search here in NR for Salvador Romo and Isabel Femat, and I found nothing, therefore I am posting it now, as another example of siblings marrying siblings. It really complicates trying to draw a family tree!

Do you have any info on Fermin Antonio Femat or Barbara Gonzales Aguirre?

Comment

Hello Denise,

You're right, a Romo sibling of Monica Lorenza married a sibling of Antonio Femat.

Check out this node:

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/es/node/22923

Some time ago I was able to look at a will using the link mentioned in this node, I think it was of María de Villalobos, widow of Nicolás Romo de Vivar. She stated her children and whom they were married to. Two Femats were mentioned. I couldn't download the will and didn't transcribe it at the time, thinking I would do it later.

So far I haven't had any luck locating info on Fermin Antonio Femat or his wife Barbara González.

BMF

Comment

Hi Bernardo and Denise,

The reason why you cannot locate additional information on the Femat or González de Aguirre is because they were not originally from Asientos. Like many families in the area the idea of opportunity came by, in this case, mining. The couple were originally from Irapuato, Guanajuato.

Fermin Antonio de Femat and Bárbara González de Aguirre y Bravo Manrique de Lara baptized at least two children in Irapuato:

1) Isabel baptized on 4 Nov 1690 - Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, Irapuato, when the family migrated north to the Real y Minas de Ibarra (Asientos) she would later marry Salvador Romo de Vivar y Villalobos on 17 May 1716.

2) Antonio baptized on 6 Feb 1692 - Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, Irapuato

3) Fermin Antonio who married Mónica Lorenza Romo de Vivar y Villalobos on 17 Oct 1715 in Asientos. I have not located his baptismal record, but then again, have not finished reviewing all the Irapuato records.

I am not sure where Fermin Antonio de Femat, padre was

Wow Daniel, this is very interesting!

Thank you for providing the info...I have had a hypothesis that the Aguilas of Asientos originated in Guanajuato (via Fresnillo). Found a family in Apaseo, Guanajuato, which has potential.

Regarding mining in the 1700's, the person I have been researching - Diego Xavier de el Aguila - had a job (tres cargas de magistral) in Bolanos, a mining town, while resident in Asientos and before that, haciendo de guajucar (huejucar?) Tabasco (according to info mat).

If you have time, could you please provide the links to Isabel's, Antonio's, and Barbara's baptisms (images)? I like to see the padrinos.

Hello Bermardo. I can't help you with what you asked about. However, in
case you find out that Rafael Femate and Rafael Romo are one and the same
person you should know that Capitán Nicolás Romo de Vivar was the son of
Pedro Romo de Vivar and Lorenza Tiscareño de Molina y Ruiz de Esparza.
Maria de Villalobos was the daughter of Salvador de Villalobos Macías

confused this María with Mariana de Villalobos the daughter of Nicolás de

have the Martín or Martinez surname, and married Nicolás Romo de Vivar the
son of Diego Romo de Vivar and Luisa de los Ángeles de los Reyes.

Dear Denise,

It turns out that I had studied your extended family a long time ago. A couple of distant cousins of years had contacted me asking for help in figuring out how their Romo ancestry connected with the Romo family from Aguascalientes and Jalisco. I was unable to prove the connection at that time. Many of those notes were stored away and didn't come to light until ten minutes ago when a light bulb finally turned on and I was able to connect these distant cousins of yours to you as they also descend from Manuel Romo and Maria Ignacia Rodriguez. I will try to contact your distant cousins as I do have old addresses. These Romos spread out through Coahuila and Texas.

IT INDICATES RAFAELA WAS ALIVE IN EARLY 1791.

Comment

Sorry Denise for answering so late, I hadn't read you post (about finding Rafael Romo and Rafaela de Aguila as padrinos for a baptism in 1791) until today while reviewing the thread.

So Rafaela de Aguila was alive as late as Jan/1791.

Also, by certification by the Zacatecas priest, Rafael Femate's second wife Joaquina de Salas was buried on the the 19/Aug/1796.

So this constrains the dates for Rafaela’s death.

By the way, I have found Manuel Romo's (son of Rafael Femat, aka Romo, and Rafaela de Aguila) burial date: 9/Feb/1857 in San Buenaventura, Coahuila. It is stated he was a widower and was 69 years old.

If his reported age is to be trusted (most of the time it is not), then he probably was born around 1787-1788. This would predate their marriage. I’m guessing his reported age is off and he probably was born 1789-1790.

The story of Emilio being the model for the Oscar statue can be seen in the shape of the statue. He was young and unknown when they chose him as the model. He was extremely athletic and his physique was partially shaped from diving off the cliffs in Acapulco. He had very broad shoulders like you see in the statue.

Hi Rick

Here is what I have on Guiseppe and Genoveva:

Joe sarro immigrated 1883 21 years old, b. May 1862, 17 years in US, according to info from 1900 census
Genoveva b. Jan 1876 also according to census.

Married Antonia Santre 11 feb 1888 - I have not found her in any other records from the US, Mexico or Italy

Married Genoveva 3 dec 1893 in SAN ANTONIO TX. She was only about 15, so I would think it was her first marriage. She was supposed to have married the town doctor, much older than herself. But, she didn't want to, so she and her brother left town and ended up in San Antonio. The rest of the family followed soon thereafter. I have seen the graves of Don Jesus Romo and Dona Josefa Romo (Bustamante) in San Fernando Cemetery.

Hi Rick

Thanks for the info! However, Sarro was a common name and more than one Guiseppe Sarro came to the US around turn of the century. My great grandfather landed in Veracruz, my grandfather and my mother have told me. We have a walking cane which was his, which he brought with him from Mexico. My mother told me he came with his parents and brother. He died relatively young - my grandfather was in 9th grade.

My grandfather could still speak a few phrases in Italian when I was teenager. I have tried to find out who his grandparents ( my great-great-grandparents) are, and have finally succeed, thanks to the city directories for San Antonio in the late 1800’s - early 1900s. This information linked Guiseppe to Carmen and Emil, to Angelo (his father), and to Louise (his mother)

Below are the sources I have so far, which document Guiseppe Sarro of San Antonio.

Regards,
Denise

Italian name: Guiseppe Angelo Sarro, stated by my grandfather (his son)

Thank you Denise for sharing your SARRO family information. I too found many Giuseeppe Sarros. There are also many Carmen Sarros, Emil Sarro and Angel Sarros. There are also many Maria Louisa Grecos. These names were extremely popular during this time period which makes it difficult to go back further on these lines. However, all these common names may lead to finding connections between all these similarly named people.

The first person to contact me asking for help in connecting the Romo's from Coahuila and Texas to Aguascalientes passed away a few years ago. There was another person that asked for help that also descended from these families but he has not responded to the only address I have for him. If he ever responds I will let you know.

Thanks again for sharing,

Please send me a link or the date of the issue in somisprimos so that I can review and investigate the ancestral lines of Emilio Fernandez

I should have seen the record for joaquina de salas, as i went through the zac zac sag record going back from 1798 to 1789. I did not see her name, but i did hop over about 50 images at the start of one of the films because they were not info matrimonial records ( i checked about every 5th one) when i get back to my regular computer tonight i can write back and tell you the precise range of images.

Raphael Femat/Romo had at least 4 siblings. You will find them if you do a search with Femat, aguascalientes 1760 1790, mothers last name Velasco. The marriages of these siblings are indexed. Raphael got married first so he was probably the oldest. Last marriage was In 1808. Gloria Delgado in a reply to one of your previous posts mention two of these marriages.

The abovementioned search lists a marriage of a femat and a romo de vivar in rincon de romos in 1788. There might be a dispensa for that, i'll be checking that out later.

At last I found the christening record for the Rafael Romo of Nadadores and San Buenaventura, Coahuila.

His full name was originally Joseph Eucebio Raphael Femat, son of Ignacio Antonio Femat and Victoria Antonia Velasco. He was christened on the 21/Nov/1763 in Asientos (present day Aguascalientes).

The record is here:

He was the first child of his parents.

The marriage record of Ignacio Antonio Femat and Victoria Antonia Velasco states that he was the son of Antonio Fermin Femat and Monica Romo. This links with the information that Armando was so kind in providing me, with the ancestry of Monica Lorenza Romo de Vivar (daughter of Nicolas Romo de Vivar and Maria de Villalobos)

Very exciting news Armando and Bernardo!
I can hardly wait to get back from work to check out the marriage and baptism links.
Quick question for Armando - where did you get your information about Aguila being a Tlaxcala surname? (i thought the missing "r" in the surname was a mistake - good to get that corrected!) I'd like to read more on this, and add the source to my list for my geneaology. It would explain why coyote was listed as her caste...

Denise,

I got the information about the Aguila surname when I purchased and read the book Bautismos, Matrimonios Y Defunciones, En El Primer Siglo De Santa Maria De Los Lagos by Mario Gómez Mata. It talks about Sebastián Hernández del Águila being a Tlaxcaltecan ally of Cortés and that his descendants founded a Republica de Indios in Lagos de Moreno and later Pueblo de Moya.

He is mentioned in the footnotes on pages 48, 56, and 252.

See also the posts at http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/20079

I have seen the surname Aguila multiple times in records of Información Matrimonial in Lagos de Moreno and in Aguascalientes. They are always recorded as indios.

You probably already know that a coyote was a child of an indio and a mestiza or a mestizo and an india and the Aguila surname would likley have come from an Indian ancestor, maybe related to the Aguila family of Lagos de Moreno.

Hi Armando

This line has gotten interesting. In trying to find out more about the Aguila name I started looking for others with it, plus looking for Justa Rafaela Aguila's parents. (I even made a post wondering if it was an alternative to Avila). Then yesterday I found this:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11782-163795-37?cc=1502404…

Its the marriage record for her father's (Don Diego de el Aguila) second marriage with Anna Maria Valdez, where his first wife Rosalia Villalpando is mentioned. Diego's father was named Don Sebastian de el Aguila and his mother Dona Maria Theresa Lopez de Nava. THis fits with other here at NR which I am sure you have seen, an email by Jaime Alvarado, linking the name Aguila (specifically the names Diego and Sebastian)with Tlaxcalans. Maybe the names Diego and Sebastian were passed down into the 1700's in that family, if it's the same family...thats what I will working on in the coming weeks...

Yet there is no doubt this is the same person, so now i want to see the. Info mat with joaquina...digging through the info mat of zacatecas, sagrario 1782-83. Turns out the records are from 1781 then skip up to 1788 at image 93, but have to keep paging through just in case the 82-83 years are there in later images. Once the year of the info mat is pinned down, it will make it easier to look for manuel romos baptism. It would be good to get that nailed down.

I know of a site known as El Muerto in Zacatecas. Whether this is the place you're inquiring about is another question. Look at the Ranchos Archive at our NR website and find the Map dated 1776 of Tlaltenango and surrounding region. Due east of Tepechitlan you'll find El Muerto close to Ojuelos. I found this useful years ago as I had this same question prior to finding this map. I had a relative born there and baptized in Tepechitlan. I could not find the location of this site until I located this map.

Googling El Muerto will point you to another El Muerto appearing close to Fresnillo, Zacatecas.

I hope this helps.

This is one of the great mysteries of nuestrosranchos that we are all stuck on. To my knowledge no one has confirmed his parents. I have seen many trees online with the information you have posted but they are not confirmed at all. Another candidate you will see on this forum is Juan's father being Matheo Vazquez de Sandoval, also unconfirmed but he at least was in the area at the time period.

To search this forum, I suggest going to google and entering:

Hi Jose,

This has been debated for several years. I do recall the hypothesis, as you mentioned, that our Nochistlán line connects to Lope de Moscoso y Osorio and his wife Leonor de Sandoval y Rojas. The timeline and last names definitely fit, but what no one has been able to answer is if a primary source exists to establish this link. Also, where did the Vázquez surname originate from? How does Mateo Vázquez de Sandoval fit into all this?

As to your question about Arcediano de Guadalajara, it means he was the Archdeacon of the cathedral in the city of Guadalajara in Castilla, Spain.

Welcome aboard, Michael!

There has been a lot of great research in to the Araiza line on Nuestros Ranchos. Several years ago a group of us worked on finding Juan de Araiza y Medina's will. It is in Aguascalientes, and dated 7 Aug 1664. I started out writing this message to correct you on something, but I am ending up correcting myself. This is why we all need to keep looking at the primary sources.

The testimony regarding "un lugar de la Vizcaya," (literally "someplace in Biscay") is in the Ordination paperwork for Gabriel de Araiza from 1739, (in a document that is super interesting in its own right) and that my good friend Enrique Agraz found. In it, Christobal de Araiza y Medina states that his grandfather Juan de Araiza y Medina’s place of origin was “en los Reinos de Castilla en algún lugar de la Vizcaya.” This literally means “in the Kingdom of Castile, in someplace in Biscay. “

Therefore this document says that Gabriel’s great-grandfather Juan de Araiza y Medina I was

Comment

Sergio,

Thank you for your response.

I agree with you that both Fernando Araiza, Maria de Guzman and Juan de Araiza Y Medina I are from Castile. After studying the will and Gabriel's ordination records, things lined that they were all from Spain. As the ordination states when Juan is from "Vizcaya" and the will states Fernando de Araiza is a "Vecino" de Zacatecas as well as Juan as a "Vecino". Juan Araiza was probably an infant or small child when he came across with Fernando and Maria.

I wonder why refers to his father as "Fernando de Araiza" and not as Fernando de Araiza y Medina? He references his children as "Araiza y Medina"

Have you ever heard of a site called " Archivo Historico de Eclesiatico de Bizkaia"?, perhaps this place could be a breaking point to continue the investigation

One more thing that scratches my curiosity is that in the will, Juan Araiza makes a comments about his slave Nicolasa (pg 3)and references that she had belonged to his grandparents since she was 4

Ana Lucia Araiza and Nicolas Villalpando were married most likely in the 1770's and were having children in the 1780's in Aguascalientes.

Ana Lucia Araiza and Nicolas Villalpando are the parents of Jose Agustin Villalpando.

Jose Agustin Villalpando's padrino is Rodrigo Medina. I believe that Rodrigo Medina is related to Luciana Araisa. I believe that both are related to Juan Araiza y Medina.

I've seen the post you're referring to about Juan de Araiza y Medina being from Spain. I only know he was at one time a resident of Zacatecas, so I couldn't say for sure, but others may know more. As far as the use of Medina, it must've been an important ancestor. I've seen lots of instances where a compound surname included a second name that wasn't used by either of the immediate parents. Another example being Andres Martin de Sotomayor who passed on to his descendants the name Martin de Sotomayor even though he was the son of Andres Martin Camacho and Maria de la Ruelas, the Sotomayor coming from somewhere in his mother's past. Something similar is probably occurring with the Araiza y Medina.

Denise,

It's good to see you're back doing research. Interesting leads you and our fellow members have on the el Aguila surname.

I have now done some DNA analysis, Y and autosomal. My second and third closest autosomal matches are from descendants of Rafael Romo/Femat from Coahuila, currently living in Texas. We only know of one descendant of Rafael Romo and Rafaela del Aguila, Manuel, so mitochondrial DNA won't help researching this line. In my case Rafaela del Aguila is 7 generations from me, so probably just borderline for autosomal DNA.

Have you considered DNA testing?

I knew I had Indian ancestors (had found 1 indio through genealogy research in church records) but was surprised to see 31% Native American. Otherwise no big surprises except I expected more Jewish than the 4% that came back. (55% European - mostly Iberian peninsula, 6% North African, 4% middle eastern). And Ancestry kindly told me my mother is my mother and my brother is my brother :) - we sent in our tests at the same time! It showed I had close ties to northeastern Mexico and South Texas genetic community. (My mother is more closely tied to Central Mexico - her paternal grandmother was Romo.) Maybe the hits you got are my family in Texas? I can tell you that the San Antonio Romos (father, mother and several children) came to San Antonio just before 1900 - among them my great grandmother. You can see that if you check out my file here in NR. (Haven't gotten round to updating

Thanks Rick!

In the actual record (the image) there is no information about the parents of Juan. And I also do not have documentation that this Juan was actually Sebastian (Juan Sebastian) father of Diego Xavier de el Aguila. That is what I now am looking for. I was hoping to find the info matrimonial for the marriage of 22 feb 1724, I looked through the available images from may 1723 - march 1724 for Asientos, but did not see it. Went to Fresnillo records to look through the info matrimoniales but there is a gap for 1724 and late 1723.....

I would like to here say thanks for all the info you have shared with us in NR! It represents a mountain of research. I have even enjoyed reading about the Lisalde family, although they are not on my tree! I descent from Lope RdE through the Romo line via Raphael Romo aka Femat. Maybe I also descend from him via the Lopea de Nava line....hope to soon find out one way or the other.

Denise

Dear Denise,

A bell rang in my head when you said that you descend from Rafael Romo aka Femat as there is a Femat that is a madrina to a child of Diego Xavier de la Aguila and Ana Maria Valdez. Jose Perez Theran and Maria de la Luz Femat are the padrinos.

Thanks Rick!

Here's what I have, to sum up what you found, and what I and others found:

Don Diego del el Aguila had 2 wives.

Wife #1 was Rosalia Villalpando.
Their daughter was Raphaela Aguila born ca. 1760, married to Raphael Femat/Romo (son of Ygnacio Antonio Femat and Victoria Antonia Velasco)

Wife #2 was Ana Maria Valdez
Their daughter is the person you found: Maria Ventura Trinidad de Aguila bapt 1781
madrina was Maria de la Luz Femat, and I would guess she could be Rafaela's sister in law or aunt.

Bernardo Menchaca found two sisters already, Maria Rosalia Femat bapt. Nov 1765, and Maria Gertrudis Diega Femat bapt. Nov 1767.

Raphael was born in 1763 as their first child. So if there is another sister (Maria de la Luz), she would have been born after 1767. That would make her ca 13-14 years old, max, - too young to be a madrina, making it more likely Maria de la Luz was an aunt - sister of Ygnacio Antonio Femat. Well, it's an educated guess!

Thanks Danny!

I am still trying to establish that the couple you found are the same ones listed as parents of Diego Xavier de el Aguila.

No record of them in the info matr for Asientos. Nor in Asunscion de Maria, Aguascalientes, - but 1724 plus part of 1723 are missing in the latter. For now i am at a dead end....may check info matr for fresnillo....

Danny

Thanks a million! I HAD seen the image yesterday but thought it must be the wrong person, but you made me look again....Juan's parents are not named in the document, but I can try to find the info matrimonial for this marriage.

What made me think again is that the marr record for Diego Xavier de el Aguila and Anna Maria Valdes lists his mother as Maria TERESA Lopez de Nava, and in the image of Juan's marriage to Maria Lopez de Naba, is lists her mother as (Dna) TERESA Sanchez.

This is my candidate for Sebastian:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-VGSQ-6T?i=439&wc=3JCT-… IMAGE

So now I have to search the info matrimoniales....narrowed down to sometime before the date of Juans marriage...!

Hi Denise,

I'd like to add my two cents, besides being related to all the families mentioned: i.e. Romo, Femat, Villalpando, López de Nava, etc. I share a close connection here as Ana María López de Valdés y Salas would be my sixth great grand aunt. Prior to your post, I had no knowledge of this child as daughter of José Mateo López de Valdés y Aguilar and Agueda Celia de Salas y Bonilla, the couple originally were from Santa María de los Lagos.

Antonio Villalpando

On the subject of the three men named Antonio Villalpando in Asientos, I earlier posted the info below (reply to original post from George Fulton):

Thanks Manny! I did not have those records!

Sorry I could not respond sooner...

Here is more info on this family:

His daughter Maria Dionisia de Villalpando married a man named Joseph Manuel de Araiza in Asientos in 1755, here is the link to the info mat:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-XX8S-JSQ?i=305&wc=M6QX…

In this record, Juan Antonios wife's name is given as : Josepha Catharina Pichardo. In the IM you provided, I can see that Josepha's father's name is Dias Pichardo. So I believe it's the same woman.
