put the paper you wrote down your ID and Password in a safe place (don't
do like me and have to go hunting for those little scattered pieces of

After you've done this you'll have a Free Yahoo email address and account.

For ID I sometimes use my first name and zip code you decide whatever if
easy for you to remember.

After you do this click "Submit this form" and you should be signed up
for full access.

NOTE: if you don't want to be getting advertising email from Yahoo
uncheck any boxes at the bottom before submitting the form.

I think this is all if I've forgotten let me know and we'll go over it a

spend some time looking around the site clicking all the links and see whats
available. . .its all free unless you order something. And if you do order
something like the Mexican Vital Records its soooo cheap for what you get.



Anyway after looking around click on the Search tab.



then on the left side click on the IGI link



and then just start using the free search.



let me know if I can help you in a specific search, we can go over it together
if you have any trouble. I truly believe after you or anyone else has done
two or so searches they will be fairly confident in their ability to navigate
the basic search part of the site.

one possible discouraging note on trying to find people that are less than
110 years old. Privacy is a concern of the LDS church and you will rarely
find info on current generations. but once you get past that 110 year area
you should start seeing more info.



this is not to say that the information isn't there. It very well might be
on the films you can order from the parrish where they were born, but because
of privacy wasn't included on the Internet IGI site.



Tell me where your Dad and grandparents were born and I'll help you find
out if there are records for that specific location  and what dates are covered.
We can go from there.

ps: Kitty this was send in response to your message about names. I'm
personally not to up on the different nicknames and used for the various
names but think this subject is extremely important as i have a whole
list of people that I think are the same person but in one record they
might be referred to as "Juan Jose" and in the next as "Tito" and then
"Sixto"

Has anyone ever seen "Tadeo" and "Pero" used interchangeably? How about
what is "Pio" the nickname for. . .could it be for "Esiquio?"

snail mail or finding someone else with a scanner will have to do. . .but
I work for the Postal Service and sending it that way would help keep me

Hi all,

I just got back from a very successful 4 day visit to CA. It was soooo
packed with activity most of it genealogy related. . .I visited with
family. I must have spend 100-150 bucks at kinko's using their 99cent
photo printer. And like puzzlework I was getting my money worth getting
up to 9 pictures on each 8.5 x 11 pages.

Just wanted to share my concern that everyone on the list be very aware
that when you reply to a message that comes to you from the list (hint:
it has this in the subject: [ranchos]). Well if you reply to a message
with this in the subject it will go to everyone in the list. So if you
want to send a private email to someone that might have replied to your
message you have to cut and paste their email into the [To:] window.

thats what the group is all about to send out messages to the whole group.

so unless you really intend for the whole group to have things like your
personal information never send it out to emails with [ranchos] in the
subject line.

. . .on the other hand if you are sending a private email to someone and
want them to know its private don't cut and paste the same subject
wording because its going to contain the [ranchos] dead give away in it.

Hello Rancho group.
As I starded to read or trying to read my copies that I brought from Las
Cruces University, I ran into a "Limpa de Sangre" from Hidalgo del
Parral.  It cought my attention becouse it mentions  the surnames of
Garcia and de Olguin, both are in my line but at this moment I'm not
sure that it is my family but went ahead and search it any way.

My Olguins and Garcia are in the 1800's  and this is in 1764 and
earlier.  I will mention these names so that someone that is looking for
them might be able to contect me.

San Jose del Parral ..... January 28, 1764
Tirso Jose Garcia ....
farther ... Nicolas Garcia
mother ... Anna Simona Saens
padrino ... Francisco Saens

This is a "Limpa de Sangre" document, and I decided to search Nicolas
Garcia  and here is what I found.

Nicolas Garcia de Bustamonte  married Anna Simona Saens on....
November 11, 1759  in San Jose del Parral

Parents to Nicolas  Garcia are....
Franco. Garcia de Bustamonte and Anna Maria Marcano

Parents to Anna Simona Saens are ....
Franco. Saens Moreno and Jpha de Olguin

Franco. Saens and Jpha de Olguin had 14 children and some are from
Hidalgo del Parral and others are from San Bartolome Valle de Allende.
Also some got married and I got them also.

So, If you think that you need any of these names email me at

Hey Carol,

Let me know if you find out who the parents are for Maria Francisca 
Marquez. It is probably listed on her marriage to Juan Antonio De 
Casas.  I am interested in knowing if she is part of the Marquez 
family that I am researching.

I love to use the IGI. 

I look for Children by using the Parents' Index.  I will use the 
father's name and his wife's and then switch the order and use the 
mother's name and her husband's.  This can bring good results.  The 
IGI only has two generations but if you can order the film from which 
it was extracted, you can gain more information.

Hopefully you will find a child/or children and by using the date of 
the first born, you can go back a year and try for a marriage date. 

Usually the marriage names are more complete and with these, either 
bride or groom or both, you can try for their birth dates and 
places and their parents' names.  Again try and get the film because 
although the IGI seems to show everyone could be related, they may 
not be!   

When I am searching for a person, I use the IGI and stop as I go 
along to check the films I have on permanent loan.  If I don't have 
the film(s), I can make the decision to order or not.  This is when I 
can also check to see if the film(s) are available by looking at the 
Family History Library Catalogue. 

Lucky for me, I have a microfishe reader and microfishe here at home 
that I can search.  This is a valuable tool that some people 
overlook.  If you are close to a Family History Center, please use 
it. Here is a reason why.

Once when I was researching, I came across the name of a place called 
Nochistlan.  I was born in Canada and so had no idea where in Mexico 
this could be.  It did not seem to be in Jalisco so I started at the 
A's and went clear to the end of the alphabet before I found it was 
Nochistlan, Zacatecas.  

When I am using the microfishe, if it is an unusual name like CURIEL, 
I will start at the beginning with letter A. CURIEL and go through 
until letter Z.CURIEL.  If it is a name like GARCIA and I am pretty 
sure of my area and time frame (or maybe just shopping), I start with 
the Jose (Joseph & Jph.) GARCIAS and go from there through all the 
Maria GARCIAS.  If I find some names which show the possiblity of 
being my GARCIAS, I will go to the beginning of the GARCIA listings 
and check until the end.  If I can't seem to find anything which 
shows promise in the Jose to Maria (of any surname), I quit and go on 
to something else. 

Using the microfishe, is for me, like an onion.  It has many layers 
of information.  I will use it time after time and year after year 
because the more you know about your particular SURNAME, the more you

Spanish is fluent, but depending on the age of the documents it might 
take me a little more time with the older documents.  I have 
experience with 1700's Spanish. I also know some very experienced 
genealogists I could ask for help if I need to.

For Apatzingan, Michoacan I selected one of the Colonia's at random

Juan's parents were Refugio Aguilera and Teodosia Cordova. I have no other infomation on them.

okay there are a bunch of folks on this list and only a few have sent
in their genealogies. . .divy up. Also some of you sent your genealogies
in an email --- I'm going to somehow put these into a file in the File
section. . .so can you all that sent your info in an email to the group
send them to me again with the subject: Genealogy of "Your Name"

Try to use this format:

monumental work of genealogical and historical research by the late

Carl L. Duaine, is in the process of preparation.

book, now that the last of the 2,500 original copies are selling for

Hmm..this could be interesting I also have a Mariana De Casas on my list
who was married to Felipe Carrillo who was my gggrandfather who had my
gg-grandfather Pedro Nolasco Carrillo born 2/8/1812 in Colotlan who then
had my ggrandmother Francisca Carrillo b. 1842 married to Casimiro Muro. 
Could be a different Mariana??? (unless she married twice).  I have
listed Mariana De Casas parents as Juan Antonio De Casas and Francisca
Marques.  I would have to say my Mariana would be born abt. 1780 time-frame. 
I'll look to see if I have that birth record/marriage record etc.

listed as Manuel Romero and Ana Maria Casas. I think (in my opinion)
we are talking about the same Manuel Romero. Manuel's brother
Joachin Romero and his wife Dominga Josepha De La Torre, are my Great
(x6)-Grand-Parents. Their daughter, Maria Alvina Victoria Romero and
her husband, Feliciano Acencio Marquez, are my Great(x5)-Grand-
Parents. This is the same couple that appears in the Saus de la
Marques Census.
