GERONIMA BENAVIDES

Hola Members, if possible I need some understanding of Geronima Bernavides, wife of Francisco Paez.( In the book of Jose Luis Vazquez "Genealogia de Nochistlan" chapters 22 and 59.) In chapter 59 ,

In my research I have come across a Geronima de Benavides that is married to Gonzalo Yanez. Is this Geronima the same one mentioned in the dispensa of Thomas Paez and Francisca Torres? According to this dispensa, Geronima Benavides was the sister of Maria Benavides married to Carlos Lomelin. I too, wonder what the connection is between Geronima Benavides, Luis Benavides and Catalina Cortes?
According to another marriage record, Gaspar Lomelin (son of Lucas de Lomelin and Josepha Macias de Torres) and Maria de Medininlla y Arambulo (daughter of Diego Gonzalez de Arambulo and Mariana Yanez and who was widowed from Nicolas de Carbajal), were married Jan 15, 1679 in Nochistlan. The record also states these two were related by consanguinity in 5 degrees. The matrimonial information goes into further detail, but the document is hard to understand. The document states that Maria de Medinilla y Arambulo was the daughter of Diego de Arambulo (married to Mariana Yanez), bastard son of Geronimo

Hello Ronnie, Daniel & Juan Ramon,

Great work here! Thanks, I've been working on the early Benavides-Cortes lines, and your posts have given me some direction.

I just posted regarding the Benavides-Cortes lines, picking apart 10 dispensas & IM's (including some posted here), and trying to reconcile them with "Retonos" & Holcombe's "Cartas": http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/23035

Hopefully, it can help resolve some of our questions. Please feel free to comment and contribute.

Remember each dispensa is different. We have to treat each dispensa as its own individual case. I have found several errors throughout dispensas, but for the most part they are usually correct. We ought to remember, that the three witnesses might have had information that was a bit off or could not remember correctly. Some dispensas are extensive, some are very short, some include lots of information, some do not. Usually in the identifying the trunk, only the direct ancestors are mentioned and not their spouses. I have only seen spouses mentioned when it is dealing with someone important or an ultramarino.

Take this this couple Capt. Dionisio Ruiz de Cabanas who married Maria Guadalupe Solano de Estrada on 19 Sep 1812 in Guadalajara. I can't remember the exact date of the dispensa at the moment, but it mentions him as a "sobrino del Ylmo Sr. Juan de la Cruz Ruiz de Cabanas y Crespo, Arzobispo de Guadalajara". In it mentions Dionisio as a member of "

Hola Members ,in guadalajaradispensas.com #167971 -image 99 is a dispensa of Tomas Paez and Francisca Torres. It makes my head spin to understand it. There might be a clue to my earlier question.

Hi Ronald,

Hi have studied this dispensa. If I remember correctly, they are related twice. Through one of the lines they both descend as follows: Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo (m. Maria Munoz) had Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo, el mozo and Francisco Munoz de Hermosillo. Juan had Ana Gonzalez who had Francisca Sanchez Carranza who had Tomas de Paez. Francisco Munoz de Hermosillo had Micaela Gonzalez de Hermosillo who had Francisca de Torres. This resulted as a consanguinity of "Tercer con quarto".

One the other side, they both descended from Geronimo de Benavides and Catalina Cortes. This couple had Geronima de Benavides and Maria de Benavides. Geronima had Francisco de Paez wh had tomas de Paez. Maria de Benvides had Domingo de Lomelin who had Joseph de Lomelin y Mendoza who had Francisca de Torres. I believe Francisca used Torres after her maternal grandmother Francisca de Torres who married Francisco Munoz de Hermosillo, daughter of Nicolas Ramirez Tavera and Polonia de Torres.

As far as I know, Jaime Holcombe Izunza was the person that had Blas Macias as the father of Alonso or Nicolas Macias. Bill Figuera pointed out that Jaime Holcombe had used the padrón (basically a census) of 1610 as the source for the information in the sheet. You can see the Jaime Isunza's family sheet at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1gmvyck444nzewr/AABwy6Jqc998ouaZG4_wDatNa?dl… (The numbers in parenthesis are for files at the AGN in Mexico City) I have a book Santa María de los Lagos by Alfredo Moreno González that has a list of the people in the padrón and it doesn't name the parents of the people mentioned. The town historian of Lagos de Moreno, Mario Gómez Mata, published an article naming Blas Macias as the first owner of the hacienda Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de las Cajas, which is on the outskirts of Lagos de Moreno, but it didn't provide a source for the document.

Early Bobadilla Family from Colotlan

Does anyone know if there is a connection with the early Bobadilla Family from Colotlan and early Bobadilla Family from Tlaltenango.

Comments

Comment

The Bobadillas married into my ancestory Tree; Antonio Bobadilla's daughter-in-law Juana Cardenas is my 2nd cousin 6x removed and her mother Micaela de Gaete Escobedo is my 1st cousin 7x removed.

I have documentation for 3 children of Antonio Bobadilla born abt 1670: Nicolas, Maria Leonarda, and Pablo Antonio.

Other Trees show 4 more children of Antonio Bobadilla: Margarita b: ABT 1690 Bolaños, Jalisco, Mexico
Joseph Andres b: abt 1693
Juan Pedro b: abt 1695
and Gertrudis b: abt 1700 Bolaños, Jalisco, Mexico.

I have found most of these individuals BUT have been unable to find proof/documentation that Margarita, Joseph Andres, Juan Pedro, and Gertrudis are children of Antonio Bobadilla. Many other members' Trees have them but none provide documentation or proof.

Can anyone help me with the proof or documentation?

Micaela was the daugther of Juan de Gaete Flores and Juana de Escobedo y Cabrera. Juan and Juana got married in 1684 in Monte Escobedo, Zacatecas.

About the Bobadilla .If you can check the files of Tlaltenango (Tepechitlan) where Francisco and Pedro de Bobadilla were encomenderos is very difficult to find people with the lastname Bobadilla. I saw Bobadilla in Totatiche, Jalisco where Juan de Gaete and Juana de Escobedo lived ab 1700´s.

I am interested in the Bobadillas, because the Haro y Saucedo where grandgrandsons of Pedro de Bobadilla but I can´t fid the relation among these people.

I'm confused as to what you mean. I took one of the film numbers you listed (443688), and did a search using that film number, and 5,782 results came up. The other films up to 443692 have also been extracted, but those after have not. In other towns I've looked at this is typical: extractions often go to about 1890, and not after that.

Some of the newer indexed records go later.

There are a lot of films that have not been extracted, of course. Considering that there are more than 100,000 rolls of microfilmed Mexican records, that is not surprising.

María de Ávila y Cristóbal de Medina

Does anyone have the ancestry of Cristobal de Medina?

I wasn't aware there was a record of Cristóbal de Medina using Valdivia as
part of his name. That's interesting. I was looking at the dates and Cristóbal
de Medina married María de Ávila in 1666 and Luis de Medina Valdivia
married in 1614, it does seem possible he could be Luis's son.

Does anyone have the ancestry of Cristobal de Medina? I was looking at
other Medina's in my tree and was curious if there is a connection between
Cristóbal de Medina and Luis de Medina Valdivia who married María de

Paige

Comment

Hi Paige,

I would say Cristóbal de Medina is probably related to Luis de Medina Valdivia in some way, I'm just not exactly sure how. On the IM of Cristóbal de Medina's son Don Diego de Medina y Lomas he's listed as Don Cristóbal de Medina y Valdivia: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-12149-60873-6?cc=1502404&w…

On the marriage of his son Juan de Medina, the scribe appears to write in Altuna after Medina for both Juan and Cristóbal de Medina, which may be another clue to his ancestry:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-12446-30254-64?cc=1502404&…

Unfortunately, without an actual record listing his parents, we can't know for sure. Maybe someone else in the forum has more information.

Francisco Jauregui's two Daughters

This is a request for 'dispensa de banas', actually it is two dispensas. The first (images 249-257) is the marriage dispensation for Luis de Carvajal and Catalina de Chavez and the second is for Juan Sanchez de Paez and Maria de Jauregui. It appears that their father Juan Francisco de Jauregui is opposed to his daughters pending marriages. If I read this correctly Juan Francisco, As described by one of the witnesses, is wreakless and fearless "...es un hombre de terrible y grande condicion y temerario y que sabe que a tirado y tira acabarar los matrimonios de sus hijas" and the fact that one daughter just gave birth and the other pregnant and close to "full term" seems to have set-off Juan Francisco and either he caused that the two grooms be jailed in Mexticacan or the two ran off and later were apprehended by the Mexticacan official (regidor) either way they escaped from jail and sought sanctuary in the Mexticacan parrish church.

Pre-1663 Matrimonios

The number of the film 299421 (you can see it at the bottom of the reference record in your link) belongs to the first book of the "Bautismos" not the "Matrimonios", in many places, the records are mix in the earliest books, is not uncommon to find all type of records within a single book, (marriages, christenings, confirmations, deaths) you are lucky in this case since they were indexed, I've seen books where only the christenings were indexed and thus the rest of the information would never come on the searches. same goes to the oldest books for Marriages and Deaths containing other type of records.

Comment

No problem, I've been "there" before and I know that the road is bumpy, I am glad I can help a little. They say "Mas sabe el Diablo por viejo" :)

Would it say on the matrimonios in Aguascalientes if either the bride or

mentioned?

Hi Paige,

Occasionally, it will be mentioned in the marriage record, but, often times you will have to consult the Información matrimonial to know for sure. I personally believe that my 9th Great Grandfather Nicolás Martín de Sotomayor was married twice, but, there's no IM to prove it definitively.

One example where a previous marriage is not disclosed is my 8th Great Grandfather Nicolás Gómez García (hijo de Antonio Gómez García and Francisca Flores de la Torre) that married my 8th Great Grandmother Catalina de Chávez (hija de Diego de Chávez Fragoso and María Ramírez).

If you look at the marriage of Nicolás Gómez Garcia and Catalina de Chávez there's no mention of a previous marriage: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-13029-91726-97?cc=1502404&…

But if you look at the IM of Nicolás Gómez Garcia and Catalina de Chávez, you can see he's clearly listed as viudo de Catalina de Robalcava: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266
