Searching

Hello my name is Maria and I am new to the program.

I have a question. I am searching for my great great grand parent from which I think they were born in Matansas Jalisco which they would be registered in Ojuelos De Jalsico. I think my great great grandparents were born around 1888 their names are as follow.

Jose Refugio Cortez –married to Alejandra Hernandez--------- Son was Antonio Cortez Hernandez born in 1909 who is my grandfather

Lorenzo Alvarado---married to Francisca Ortiz ----------- Daughter was Ma Manuela Alvarado Ortiz which was my grandmother

If any names sound familiar....please let me know. Also I have reasearch the Ojuelos films and the earliest films are from 1879 wondering if there are any from 1888 to current.

Thanks

Alicia Carrillo's thoughts

Alicia, that was really nice, and these are the same feelings I have
when researching. Every little tidbit of new information about my
ancestors gets me motivated.

group of thoughts, words and love you'll have for your children,
grandchildren and their children to read days far from now. I'm honored
to have been mentioned and so happy you joined us in this journey we
started together so long ago. together we have seen the group grow and
now with Arturo's magic the group has grown beyond what was possible
with the old technology.

thank you for you support and for playing such an important role of
nurturing the new members just starting their search. Your love and care

flows from each message.

Never forget you have a good friend so far away in North Carolina,

They all immigrated to the US about 1917. The families first settled in
Peachsprings, Arizona and then permanently in Needles, CA. Ofcourse over
time the first generation has passed away and most descendants now live
in other parts of California, Nevada and Arizona and Washington state.

Jalisco Batch Numbers Question

Welester was kind enough to send me a disk with batch numbers for Mexico
via Esther Herold (thanks everyone). Note that the batch number that
have ** next to them are probably not going to work. Does anyone know
why these don't work and what happened to those batch numbers. Seems
that if they were existent at one time they still might be available
some place. Possibly on an older pre 1988 version of the IGI. Is that
only to be found on Fiche somewhere or is it no existent? The fiche
found in todays FHC what is the date of the IGI? I've been told but I
can't remember right now.

Miri,

You can order the microfilm, 0299830 which is the marriages for 1772-1777
for Aguascalientes. Through your local Family History Center. It does have
the marriage entry for ANTONIO BUENA VENTURA DE CUELLAR & JOSSEFA MARCELA
GONZALES.

Searching Google Earth I came upon the satellite vision/map of Zacoalco de
Torres Jalisco and surrounding areas.
Also having contact with someone who regularly emails slides/pictures to me if
you would like me to forward these slides let me know.

civil and church marriages

which date would you post in your records for a marriage, the civil record if it appears dated first or the church date if you have it? I've been told that parents did not consider their children married until it was done in the church and they were not allowed to live together until the church marriage. I would imagine there were couples who could not marry in the church but could have a civil marriage. What have other members of the group found?

Gustavo Arellano and his extended family celebrate Christmas Eve at his Tia
Maria's house with a feast of epic proportions.

My parents remain the only ones of their respective siblings who have no
grandchildren, so we -- Mom, Dad, me, a brother and two sisters -- spend most of
our Christmas Eves with the family of my Tia Maria.

Teocaltiche,Jalisco

I noticed a few of us with roots in Teocaltiche, Jalisco. I visited Teocaltiche in 1998. I visited with the local cronista, Senor Rameriz, the uncle of author Nicolas De anda Sanchez.

I have been going through the IGI and ordering films, but having a difficult time getting pass my great-grandfather Mauro Rodriguez.

I have used tips offered by a member to search for siblings on rolls. This has worked.

In the book on Teocaltiche my family is mentioned in the talaberteros section. I know from the past some of you worked with the author. --Nicolas De Anda Sanchez. I know he must be getting on in years. I would like to get my information to the author since conventional search tools not working. Since he gound it noteworthy to add my family to the book I thought it would be of interest to him to know about the descendants. Perhaps he has source information of value for my historical benefit.

Most importantly, I would love to share family backgrounds andi mmigration pattern to USA. Maybe some links?

Genetic Genealogy

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope your new year will be filled with rewarding family research.
I was going through some old (really OLD) email messages this morning - the "Ancestry.com" newsletter that I had been ignoring for quite some time, and came across a reference to this site:

http://www.thegeneticgenealogist.com/

and thought it would be of interest to those of you who have worked with your DNA (I have not so I did not read this blog). Just thought I would share.

Distrito Federal, Mexico Civil Record translation

Happy Holidays to all:

I have a civil marriage record from Distrito Federal, Mexico dated 07 Jan 1917 and I am unable to translate two statements. “En la casa no 94 de la oclava del Reloj el Sr Pbro D.J. Guadalupe Chavez, V.P. asistio a siete de enero de mil novecientos diecisiete al matrimonio que in extremis (or fue in extremis) contrajeron Juan Breña y Ma Gonzalez fueron testigos Francisco y Ana Breña “

I am having trouble finding "oclave del Reloj" on any map. Does anyone have a historical map of DF. Quite possible this was located behind la Cathedral in front of Teatro Alarcon (or so I was told).

Also what does que in extremis or fue in extremis means.

And while on the subject of maps, I am looking for Callejon del Indio Triste No 59, Zacatecas, Zac, Mx which was the residence of my uncle, Marcelo Gonzalez.

Any assisstance is appreciated. Anita

Mora Family from Ocotlan, Jalisco

I am wondering if anybody has any ties to the Mora family from Ocotlan. I have Jose Antonio Mora born in Ocotlan 1806. Parents were Rafael Mora and Gertrudis Baca. I found a Jose Rafael Mora born in 1786 in Ocotlan, Jalisco, but I haven't been able to confirm if it's the correct Jose Rafael Mora. I was wondering if any members have any Mora line tying into the southern end of Jalisco. Jose Antonio Mora married Trinidad Villaroel of Atotonilco el alto, Jalisco in 1826 in Ocotlan. Please if anyone has any information would they reply it would be greatly appreciated.

Que tal,
?
I saw your posting on your website.? The Hermosillo family name is truncated from the Casillas family name.? We've been using birth certificates and previous work done by Alberto Casillas in his book titled the "Casillas" to trace back the Casillas family .
?
Including DNA sampling which resulted in R1b1.
?
By adding the Casillas back in the name you can get all the previous ancestors.?
?
These are my fathers:
?
Moises Casillas Diaz
Quintin Casillas Gomez
Panfilo Casillas Ulloa
Nazario Casillas Gutierrez
Francisco de la Trinidad Casillas Villapando
Jose Maria Casillas Gonzalez de Hermosillo
Jose de San Ramon Casillas Casillas
Jacinto Ventura Casillas Lozano
Francisco Casillas y Cabrera III
Francisco Casillas y Cabrera II
Francisco Casillas y Cabrera I
Martin Casillas (Spain, he built the cathedral in Guadalajara)

Hi

Copy and past my url to see the descendants and ancestors of
Jose Maria Casillsa, Gonzales, de Hermosillo...
(aka Jose Gozales de Hermosillo)

http://www.ysearch.org/gedcom_show.asp?uid=FWRJ5&viewuid=FWRJ5

My source is Jose Alberto Casillas, Rick Rodriguez, who both are using actual birth certificates.

It was common and tradition in times to for women to use their grandmothers name instead of their husbands.  Such as the case with de Hermosillo mixing with Gonzalez, becoming Gonzales de Hermosillo.

Jose Maria's real last name is Casillas.  Very much like Panco Villa using a name de guerra....

Familia Quezada.

Saludos.Jorge Luis Ramírez Gómez.

dna testing

I just learned the www.familytreedna.com has a December sale on at least some of their test kits when purchased through one of the projects (you can generally fit yourself into one of the posted projects. There is a Mexican Surname Project and lots of specific surname and geographic projects.) The Y-DNA37w/ mtDNAPlus kit is $199 (I paid over $300), and the Y-67DNAw/mtDNAPlus kit is $308. I don't know what the latter one was before, but that represents a good savings. I only wish I had known about their apparently traditional December-only sales.
I have been very satisfied with the results and the availability of knowledgeable people to answer questions. So far my results indicate a European haplogroup for my Ruiz line (R1b1b2a1a), and 3 Native American lines (Q and mtdna haplogroups B and C).
So if you have thought about having it done, you may want to take advantage of the sale. (Who knew they would have a "sale"?)

Sobre Retrato de Martin Casillas el Alarife.

Hola a Todos:

años trabajaba mi sobrina Julissa Joey Guzman Velazquez (prima

Some last names vascillate as it was the custom for women to sometimes use their grandmothers last names.  Truncation of last names also occured;such as the name of "Casillas" as is the "de la torre" family from los Altos de Jalisco...they would originally be "Casillas de la Torre", or synthisis like Gonzalez, de Hermosillo becomes Gonzalez de Hermosillo. Or Cabrera becomes "y Cabrera" or "de Cabrera."

Finally! I believe I have a hit with someone in the group! Yes Esperanza, I do
have information on this line to share with you. Your Timoteo Limon was brother
to my GGG Grandfather Victor Limon. Timoteo's and Victor's Parents were Jose
Carlos Limon & Maria Gertrudis. I believe Maria Gertrudis was a Quesada. I
still have not hit the birth records for this line but do have a copy of the
Marriage reco
rd of Jose Limon and Maria Gertrudis Quesada to share with you if
you like. In addition, Tiburcia Estrada is also in my direct family line. Her
parents were my GGGGrandparents Jose Nicolas Estrada and Maria Encarnacion
Chavez. I do not have any marriage info on these grandparents yet. I too am
also new to this. I am willing to help you out with whatever I can. Let me
know!

FolkTales-Spirit of Giving

http://www.boehm-chronik.com/mexico/milpaalta.htm
http://www.boehm-chronik.com/mexico/anecdotas.htm

What a great example of having the true sharing and giving attitude.
Thank you Bill for your continued support of other members of the group.
Your dedication to help members of the group advance their genealogies
is an example we should all strive to have during the holidays and at
all times throughout the year(s).

Now I know this is not a fluent transition but just to share a bit of

New Group Rule

I haven't talked about this and I don't believe it has been addressed by
others. Please do not invite the nuestrosranchos.org group members
either as a whole (via the email discussion groups) or individually
(unless you contact them and get their permission) to any social
networking sites. These messages are very distracting and have nothing
to do with what we are about. There very well could be exceptions and if
there are please bring them to my attention and I'll discuss them with
the other moderators. In the meantime just don't do it.

Esos mensajes no tienen relacion

updated file

I've just updated my file on Rootsweb.com. Most of the research in for the district of Jerez Zacatecas but there is also research from Tamazula and Zapotlan El Grande/Ciudad Gusman Jalisco and then to Michoacan in the 1780's and earlier. The file is too large to post on Nuestros since there are abt 59,000 names. I hope there is something of interest there for many of you researching those areas.

If you put in Rito Castanon and go to the one born in 1919 and then go to pedigree in text form it will give you my genealogy or you can go to index and it will show you the surnames in my files. If you find errors I would appreciate you letting me know so I can make corrections.

Free Heraldry Book

Hi,

I have this book on Heraldry by Stefan Oliver, "An Introduction to
Heraldry." It doesn't really talk about our genealogy and I'm not really
into Heraldry so I thought I'd give it away to a nuestrosranchos.org
member.

If you look at these two scans and think you might be interested in this
book then send me your guess between 1 and 500 and if you are the
closest to the number that my wife just picked (hint it was somewhere in
the middle) I'll mail you the book absolutely free.

here are those scans:

Saludos,

Tengo el libro de Stefan Oliver, "An Introduction to Heraldry."
