records for San Pedro Piedra Gorda, Cuauhtemoc, Zacatecas.

I've been asked to help someone find family from San Pedro Piedra Gorda, Cuauhtemoc, Zacatecas and I'm not familiar with it at all, any suggestions where it's located or if there are films from there? They are searching for their grandfather Carlos Vasquez, born abt 1901, mother is Juana Saucedo. That's all the information they have. The rest of this family is from Jerez Zacatecas Mexico.

thanks for any help, Linda in Everett

Need help: de Aranda-Martin Sotomayor (marriage) & Lorenza Moran Montoya (christening)

Three weeks ago I requested photocopies from LDS, but the microfilms containing two of the records I requested were badly damaged, and they did not send copies. Instead, they suggested to visit my closest Family Research Center, and extract the info directly from the microfilm. Unfortunately, the center closest to me does not have these films, so I need your help. These are the two records:

1)Marriage: Antonio de Aranda with Antonia Martin de Sotomaior (Sotomayor) 27 jul 1704, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. M602325 0641015

2)Christening: Lorenza Moran Montoya. Parents, Juan Moran and Juana Montoia (Montoya). 20 agosto 1694. El Sagrario, Aguascalientes. C604763 0299423

This records could prove extremely useful, because I have reached a wall with both families and I hope to find additional information in these records to continue my research. For record 1, I hope the names of the parents of bride and groom to be listed, but if they are not, at least the names of the 'Padrinos'.

For record 2, I am after the names of the grandparents (unlikely to be listed, but they might) or at least the names of the padrinos. These sometimes are extremely useful.

Hope someone can help getting this info. Perhaps someone has additional information on these two families.

Thanks

Jaime

Heraldry Book: Winner/Ganador

As hard as it was to believe there was a direct hit winner. In the
future I will not make the mistake of neglecting to inform everyone to
email me directly with your guesses. I'm sorry to everyone in the group
that got those 30+ messages from various members with only a number in
the message. My mistake my apology.

. . .and the winner is Juan Jose Ramirez Ibarra who guessed exactly the
number, "297" that my wife Figen picked before I made the initial
announcement of the free book offering.

Juan Jose if you will contact me privately at joseph@nuestrosranchos.org
we'll work out a way for me to mail you the book, congratulations!

joseph

ps: my condolences to those that picked numbers very close to 297. We
had a guesses of 277, 279, 299, 300, 301, and 305 and a few others that
were very close.

Macias and Limon in Teocaltiche

Rudy and Esperanza,

Congratulations on the discovery of your connection, the excitement is palpable and there's nothing like it, to finally make that familial connection.

That's what brings us to this group, the hope that we'll learn about ourselves by learning about our ancestors, and if in the process we make a connection with a family member, it's a homerun.

I am happy for both of you,

Alicia,
San Jose, Calif

Finally! I believe I have a hit with someone in the group! Yes Esperanza, I do have information on this line to share with you. Your Timoteo Limon was brother to my GGG Grandfather Victor Limon. Timoteo's and Victor's Parents were Jose Carlos Limon & Maria Gertrudis. I believe Maria Gertrudis was a Quesada. I still have not hit the birth records for this line but do have a copy of the Marriage record of Jose Limon and Maria Gertrudis Quesada to share with you if you like. In addition, Tiburcia Estrada is also in my direct family line. Her parents were my GGGGrandparents Jose Nicolas Estrada and Maria Encarnacion Chavez. I do not have any marriage info on these grandparents yet. I too am also new to this. I am willing to help you out with whatever I can. Let me know!

I need help with "braceros"

Hello all!

My father was a "bracero" (laborer contracted in a group). I think "bracero" term refers to "brazo" equal to "arm" for labor or work in the U. S. during, but not exclusivly, World War II and Korea War.
He belongs nowadays in a organizated group dedicated to claim some money that mexican goverment received as a retention of 10% from braceros earnings to set a fund for they to have back in their country.
His was contracted in Mexico City in 1943, he left his town Jesús María, Jalisco, accompained by his now deceased cousin.
Yesterday he went with the group to Mexicali, State capital of Baja California (we live in Tijuana) to give all the required documents in the office stablished for that matter.
He came back very desappointed and sad because he doesn´t have his contract document, it is gone, destroyed in the course of life. He has no "bracero card" because at that time it was not given. The only thing he has is a beige colored envelope he was given to preserve his documents, including his contract, during traveling, but this solely envelope is not taken as proof by such office.

My request from you, is any info or guidance on how to obtain a copy of my father´s bracero contract, hoping there is an original or copy in official or contractor´s company archives.

He was contracted to work in the Southern (or South) Pacific Railroad in California. He was based in Auburn, Ca.
His job was right in the rail construction and some nigths as a vigilant as extra time.

Any ideas on how I must search via internet first, if possible, or where to go with my 86 year old papá to request such document? Maybe some relarives of any of you had a job like that and made that quest.

As extra info, mexican office retaining (as keepers) that 10% are giving up only $38,000 pesos in return, but it easily should be about $100,000 pesos, some tv journalists had say; shame on my not honest goverment holders.

Well, my father and maybe all braceros were not aware of that count until someone, right now I dont´t have his name nor activity. start the movement to get that money back to whome it belongs.

And also, take this as a piece of history of my genealogy.

I am very proud of my honest and honored dad. It is not shame to need money, which is not the case thanks God and my dad, who never was lazy, on contrary, he still is a active hardwork man. During this rainy season, nobody can stop him from going to the roof to check an rapair, he reluctanly use the services of a handyman or any mason, he likes to have the credit for any rapair he can do, when he can.
He only stops and sit to just watch his handyman working when his body suffers pain from extra physical efforts, then he sits there directing his helper like if that man is his owns hands.

Now you can make questions for helping me if any lack in my explaining.

It is not good a rain drop falling on my dad´s head, I have to open the umbrella.

Thank you all for this and all the help I always receive willingly to be a help for you also.

New Member Introduction for Rudy Munoz

Good Evening,

I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself to the group. I have just recently begun to research my family roots. I am new to this so please be patient with me until I get up to speed with all of you!!! It has been a difficult task obtaining famly information since most of the family with the key information has passed on. The branch I am currently focusing on is for my Paternal Munoz & Macias lineage. My Grandfathers name was Jose Gutierrez Munoz who was born in Tlachichila, Zacatecas in 1897. My grandfathers parents names were Magdaleno Munoz & Nolberta Gutierrez. The only other info I have on this line is the name of my gg grandfather Rafael Gutierrez. From what I am told Rafael had two wives. However, no one remembers their names! Any help with this branch would be very welcome. Nolberta Gutierrez had siblings by the names of: Margarita, Thomasa, Basilia & Rafael. Magdaleno Munoz had only one sister by the name of Diega who married a Santellan.

I have had much better luck with my Macias lineage! This branch of the family seems to have resided in Villa Hidalgo, Teocaltiche, San Juan de los Lagos & Lagos de Moreno areas of Jalisco. I have also tracked down family records from Aguascalientes. The family names from this lineage are as follows: Macias, Olmos, Pedroza, Aguallo, Ruiz, Garcia, Estrada, Limon, Quesada, Calvillo, Luera, Villanueva, Chavez, Esparza, Aguilar and /or Avelar and Villavicensio. I am currently at the early 1800's with this branch.

I look forward to participating in your discussions. I have learned a great deal from your recent discussions regarding research. Any input and corrections are always welcome.

I need help with

I found a web site: which describes how to get assistance in obtaining compensation. If you carry out a google search on "bracero" you will find a lot of reading material.

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for your kind offer. The book looks interesting to those
of us who not only descend from Spain, but from England and France
and other countries, too. If anything will bring us out of the
woodwork, it is something useful for free. Please put me down for
number 361.

Have a great holiday. You're certainly in the spirit already.

My Dream/Mi Sueño

Hello,

Back in 2002 my wife, Figen and I were involved in a serious car
accident in which a drunk driver crashed into us. We survived but I was
out of work for about 6 months and during that time I googled "Puentes"
and found a message from someone looking for information about my father
and uncles. It turned out to be a cousin who was doing genealogy and
that started me on this trip of doing my families genealogical research.
I knew that I didn't know anything about genealogy and even less on how
to do Mexican Genealogy so I decided to surround myself with others that
were doing research in my geographical area: Jalisco and Zacatecas. So
in 2002 I started the Yahoo group: Ranchos which was only for Jalisco
and Zacatecas but later Aguascalientes was added. With the help of many
volunteers the group has become what it is today but the groups
existence would probably be in doubt if it hadn't been for the
tremendous amount of work that Arturo Ramos has put in by building and
maintaining our beautiful website. If anyone in the group should be
remembered with an overnight express package of frozen tamales or
something it should be Arturo. Thank you Arturo.

construyendo y manteniendo nuestro Web site hermoso. Si cualquier
persona en el grupo se recuerda con un paquete expreso de noche de
tamales congelados o algo debe ser Arturo. Gracias Arturo.]

Anyway back to my dream. Yes I started the group as a selfish desire but
knew that it would also be a place where those that knew even less than
I could be helped as well. I'm happy, very happy that over the years
many members have been able to advance their genealogies with help of
the members of the group. Well this is where I want to make my point.
Right now there are well over 300 members of the group but there is only
a core group of 30-50 that are consistently active in the discussion
groups. My communication is mainly directed to the rest of the group
that is not active. I know very well that many of you have gained
benefit from members of this group but have we received anything from
you? You would know the answer to this question. I personally am maxed
out and don't see myself getting more active in the group than trying to
keep things balanced behind the scenes and making sure things stay
within the norms established. But for those that have received much from
the group but given little I'm making a request of you.

I would propose that 2009 be the year of instruction. A year where the
many teach the many rather than the what is currently happening and the
few teach the many. There are hundreds of things that can be taught. I
would ask that you "donate" 20 hours in 2009 and come up with a Jalisco,
Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes genealogy/history/cultural lesson to
teach the group. Every one of us is intelligent enough to put your mind
to work and do some research on something related to our area of
research and share it with your fellow group members. It can be a
history lesson. Tell us about the history of the rancho your GGG
grandparents were born in. Tell us the history of a favorite recipe that
comes from Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes. Someone do a Power
Point on how to do a place search, a film search, a batch search, a
request for a photocopy service from Salt Lake, etc., etc., etc. Someone
go to http://www.loc.gov/rr/hispanic/geneal/index_gc.html and pick two
or three of your surnames and contact the libraries that own these
volumes and have the 10-20 pages on your surnames sent to you. Take that
information and have it translated into English and share it with the
group. There are so many things that can be done.

Jose Maria Casillas Hermosillo de Gonzalez

Que tal,

I saw your posting on your website.  The Hermosillo family name is truncated from the Casillas family name.  We've been using birth certificates and previous work done by Alberto Casillas in his book titled the "Casillas" to trace back the Casillas family .

Including DNA sampling which resulted in R1b1.

By adding the Casillas back in the name you can get all the previous ancestors.

These are my fathers:

Moises Casillas Diaz
Quintin Casillas Gomez
Panfilo Casillas Ulloa
Nazario Casillas Gutierrez
Francisco de la Trinidad Casillas Villapando
Jose Maria Casillas Gonzalez de Hermosillo
Jose de San Ramon Casillas Casillas
Jacinto Ventura Casillas Lozano
Francisco Casillas y Cabrera III
Francisco Casillas y Cabrera II
Francisco Casillas y Cabrera I
Martin Casillas (Spain, he built the cathedral in Guadalajara)

Gonzalez (de Hermosillo, de Rubalcaba)

Claudia, I'm still unclear as to your question. I have a branch of
Rubalcabas in my ancestry, mostly from Yahualica but I think they originate
in Nochistlan, Zacatecas. I know there is a town of Rubalcaba, south of
Santander, in Spain and I am guessing that I may one day learn that they
originate there. Rubalcaba is a prominant name in Yahualica. But then
again, I have an Avila line that I thought might originate in Avila, Spain,
but dna results indicate that it is an Native American line....

Gonzalez (de Hermosillo, de Rubalcaba, etc.)

Dumb question...

How do we know whether certain Gonzalez families are "Hermosillo or "Rubalcaba, or...?"
Is there a way to figure this out if a record does not specify? Are certain towns/villas presumed to be Gonzalez de xxx???

Please respond if you have researched this. I'm trying to decipher my Gonzalez from Yahualica. Thanks.
thanks.

Los caminos de la plata en España y América - loscaminosdelaplata.com

http://www.loscaminosdelaplata.com/v_portal/apartados/pl_basica.asp?te=…

Lester,

I am confused. I found this website about several "Ruta de Plata"s in Europe and the New World. It has a map of the Mexican Ruta de Plata that goes from Mexico City northward to Santa Fe, and branches from Mexico City to the ports at Acapulco and Vera Cruz. It doesn't show the Ruta going to Nuevo Leon, only through the states of Guanajuato, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas, Durango, Chihuahua, and ending in Santa Fe in New Mexico. The text only mentions mines and cities along the route through those states.

Was this route also known as the Camino Real? I know there are several Camino Reals. There was one in California where I once lived, I recall.

This site also has some photos, and the one that caught my attention was the one labeled "Zacatecas". It was taken in the late 1800s and shows a dead horse and armed soldiers sitting along the wall of a building. It doesn't' have an explanation or description of the photo, such as where and when it was taken. Interesting.

Ruiz de Velasco y Haro

Can Any HELP! Those who have Ruiz de Velasco lines in Los Altos

Has anyone made this connection yet or have any info or leads? If
Pedro was a Velasco y Haro he has to descend from Antonio

His uknown father ca. 1560 and his grandfather uknown ca. 1518 and his grt grandfather should be Antonio de Velasco and Juana Ruiz de Alarcón. Who
