Nuestros Ranchos] Visiting Salt Lake City

Rick, I'm jealous already, how nice to be able to spend a couple of weeks doing research.

I will have the luxury of a few days only and most likely it will not be at Easter time but maybe the three of us can meet up. I can try to schedule my visit on the days that you and Maureen would be there next year. I hope it works out.

Saludos,
Alicia, San Jose, Calif

Dear Alicia and Maureen, I'm also planning to visit SLC next year, maybe
during Easter week. I went last year during Easter and the very friendly
people there told me that they don't get that many visitors during this
week, and it's not that cold either. I'll probably spend a week or two
there.

Dear Joseph, is a pleasure to see the way that the great things happen.

I am very happy to stay in the group, and I like your idea.
I understand the priority of the Zacatecas, Jalisco and Aguascalientes
information, but if you thing could be interesting for you, I offer to share
information from San Luis Potosi, I have found that a lot of families from
"Los Altos de Jalisco" in the ends of XIX and beginnings of the XX century,
move to San Luis Potosi. I Have 6 from my Ggrandparents of 8, that are from
La Chona, San Ju
an de Los Lagos, Lagos de Moreno (Villalobos, Quesada,
Perez, De Alba, Lomel?n, Ortiz).and the other two, have relation with
Zacatecas (Sanchez and Gordoa)

If you need other kind of help please let me know.
Best Regards

Rocamonte

Someone inquired about a place known as Rocamonte. I personally have no knowledge of this place, so I went to the LINKS section of NUESTROS RANCHOS (it is part of the title banner). Once on the LINKS page I looked under GEOGRAFIC AND LOCALITY INFORMATION, and then to ZACATECAS MUNICIPALITIES. On this page there is a BUSCAR button (Find), and I was able to enter "Rocamonte". The only thing that came up was information related to Rocamonte was the following (and this appears to NOT be a settlement) in the municipality of Concepcion de Oro:
Hidrografia: "Sobre los aprovechamientos de agua subterránea cabe resaltar: Guadalupe Garzarón, Ciénega de Rocamontes, Anáhuac, San José del Mezquital, de estos dos últimos dos se extrae el agua que alimenta la red de distribución general en la cabecera municipal. Cuenta con pozos de uso doméstico y otros dedicados al riego para beneficiar una superficie de un poco mas de 500 hectáreas." Note - it says Cienega de Rocamontes. Note also its' location in the NE corner of Zacatecas, bordering ...?? an unknown state (the map of Zacatecas on this page does not show the neighboring states).
While many municipalities have webpages, Concepcion de Oro does not appear to have one.
This is the only search I made regarding Rocamonte - but there may other searches you can make.

Treminos from Saltillo and Viesca, Coahuila

Hello, All!

I am looking for further information on these Treminos. Does anyone recognize them?

I am not finding much information on them. Although I have found information saying that they were from Saltillo, Coahuila they seem to have many connections to Zacatecas. Can anyone help? The family says they were from Saltillo.

Can anyone give any information on Rocamonte, Zacatecas? I have several members of my family born there but know nothing about the place.

Joseph's Dream and Visiting Salt Lake

Hello all,

First of all, I would like to thank Joseph, Arturo, and all the other little
helpers for all the work and effort, that they have put into making the
Ranchos Group, what it is today.

Second, we all can put in our own two bits of wisdom. We can ask questions,
we can share ideas. It doesn't matter how new, advanced or whatever level
we are on. We can always share and learn, from each other.

As for my self, I am not a professional researcher, I am just a person, who
wants to share what he has learned. The reason that I am where, that I am,
is that I have been asking questions about how to do Mexican research for
the last 19 years. Then I began to share what I have learned with others,
either through teaching classes, being a volunteer at my local Family
History Center, and reading messages posted through Ranchos and other
Message boards (and trying to answer a few). So we all can find something
to share.

As for ranchos members, visiting Salt Lake. If you need help, or would like
to meet me, feel free to contact me, because I live 84 miles north of the
Family History Library.

Visiting Salt Lake City Spring of 2009

Thanks Maureen,

Just thought it would be nice to meet up with some Ranchos members but it will be tough to get it to coincide with everyone's busy schedules. I just know that I want to go sometime in the spring and who knows, it may end up being a spur of the moment two or three day trip for me.

Thanks for your reply
Alicia

Dear Alicia and Rick:
You know I would love to meet with you, but the only reason I am making the trip is because my husband has a meeting in Reno, Nevada in June.  Since we are in the area, we were going to plan on renting a car and driving to Salt Lake for a week to do some research.  Sort of killing two birds with one stone.  My date in June is not set yet.  Now if for some reason the June date is canceled, I may still plan a trip out west to visit my sister for a while and then head up to Salt Lake.  My schedule would be quite a bit more flexible.  I will keep you two posted.  Thank you for the offer.

I have updated my Asebes family tree.  It is listed in "files" under my name - Rosales, Enriqueta.  My Asebes family were in Nochistlan 1750(?) to 1800.  Then they move to Teocaltiche until 1885(?).  Then most of them moved to Mapimi, Durango and Coahuila.  From there, they came to the U.S..

Joseph's Dream

Like all other voices raised, I would thank and honor Joseph and Arturo for their diligent work and the wonderous creation that NR has become.?

I regularly count my?blessing in almost literally tripping over NR and the fortune of having?half my ancestors from Aguascalientes, granting me access to learn at the feet of what feels like the masters as I undertake to research my ancestry.? A newbie to genealogy altogether, I have learned so much from all those who do have so much to contribute.? I'm am regularly awestruck by people's reports and discussions of ancestors in the 16th century, particularly when I'm still working?my?way through?the 1800's.??While I'm trying to figure out where I can look for information on a nothing-little town that no one ever heard of, I am blown away to read about people who know the names and locations of the ranchos where their people have lived.? I clearly have a lot to learn and, while much of the discourse brings me no closer to answers now, I am learning that there are resources and means by which information can be obtained.? One day I hope to get half so far as the rest of you.

Consider me one of those who has taken and given nothing, it would be fair, but I don't know that there is anything someone of my level can offer.?? Or is there?? Ideas?

I would like to add my thanks to you and Arturo for the monumental work you have done and continue to do on Nuestros Ranchos. I am one of those, unfortunately, who has contributed little since I joined. My computer and research skills are not at a level where I can teach anyone anything, but I do promise to post some historical information in 2009. It is a pleasure to read the experiences and discoveries of others on Nuestros Ranchos. For that reason alone, I hope that your misgivings about the future of the group do not become reality.

Dear Rosa:
I could not come up with anything either for Rosario and Trinidad's
marriage.  We might estimate that they were married when Trinidad was 15 or
sixteen years of age.  This may or may not be true, but it was common for
girls to marry around that age.  That would put the marriage around 1909.
If you know they were of the Catholic faith and hopefully they were married
in Jalostotitlan, then your best bet is to find your nearest LDS history
center and order the Catholic marriages film 1905-1913 # 279310 Jalos.
Review the film and if it is not there try 1913-1924 279311.  There are also
civil marriage records, but they appear to be one month of one year each, so
it would take more $$$$ and more time.  Also, since the marriage was in the
early 1900's I have noticed that many of the early 1900 films have not been
batched yet, so it would be near to impossible to find a marriage reference
online for them.  Mind you this is a long shot, but it may be your best bet.
I have done s
ome of my research in this manner and sometimes I am overwhelmingly lucky
and other times very disappointed.
If you need help in finding more film numbers.  Go to the familysearch
site main page, click on "library" link at the top of that page and then
"library catalog", choose "placename" search and put in Jalostotitlan part
of Mexico.  Click on the links for civil or church records and then "view
film notes" button on the top right.  It will give you all the films that
might be ordered from Jalos.

Good luck

If you relate the discussion to our area of research just like you did in this email then it is very on topic and can be posted on the research@nuestrosranchos.org list, but if you think your message (your teaching lesson) will be 100% on SLP and not related to our area of research then put it on the general@nuestrosranchos.org list.

So my answer is yes please teach us about SLP as related to Los Altos.

Thank you Cristobal, envíe su lección en inglés o en español pues hay muchos en el grupo que se beneficiará

Germanic roots?

Hello everyone,

In answer to Joseph's request that we share more openly the information that each of us possess, I thought I would share a little tidbit that I came across. Many years ago in a passing conversation with my father-in-law the name Guzman came up and he commented that it was of german origin, I had always thought of it as a hispanic name since it is common in Mexico. However, recently I found that my father in law was probably right. In researching my Padilla line I started reading the history of Spain and the term "Godos" kept coming up. If I understood correctly, "Godos" refers to Goths - a germanic tribe. These Goths ruled what is now part of Spain for hundreds of years. With that in mind, it is easy to see why so many "Altenos" are tall and fair skinned.

My documents updated again

Hey gente,
I got back from a Salt Lake City trip a couple of weeks ago and just finished updating my files. Over 95% of my ancestors were from Los Altos de Jalisco. Most of them were from Jalostotitlan, San Juan de los Lagos, San Miguel El Alto & Lagos de Moreno.

Check it out.

Happy Holidays.

Rosario Enriquez

Dear Rosa:
I could not come up with anything either for Rosario and Trinidad's marriage. We might estimate that they were married when Trinidad was 15 or sixteen years of age. This may or may not be true, but it was common for girls to marry around that age. That would put the marriage around 1909. If you know they were of the Catholic faith and hopefully they were married in Jalostotitlan, then your best bet is to find your nearest LDS history center and order the Catholic marriages film 1905-1913 # 279310 Jalos. Review the film and if it is not there try 1913-1924 279311. There are also civil marriage records, but they appear to be one month of one year each, so it would take more $$$$ and more time. Also, since the marriage was in the early 1900's I have noticed that many of the early 1900 films have not been batched yet, so it would be near to impossible to find a marriage reference online for them. Mind you this is a long shot, but it may be your best bet. I have done some of my research in this manner and sometimes I am overwhelmingly lucky and other times very disappointed.
If you need help in finding more film numbers. Go to the familysearch site main page, click on "library" link at the top of that page and then "library catalog", choose "placename" search and put in Jalostotitlan part of Mexico. Click on the links for civil or church records and then "view film notes" button on the top right. It will give you all the films that might be ordered from Jalos.

Good luck

Verification of Baptism Record for Pioquinta Gonzalez

This list compares the names given in records (source: microfilm and
certificates) located for my ancestor, Pioquinta Gonzalez Figueroa, and some
of her children. I am needing to verify if the latest record, the baptism
record that is listed first, is indeed her's. I have placed in bold
lettering the names that I think make the necessary connections. I would
appreciate feedback on this that would help me to determine whether or not I
have found her baptism. The family story has been handed down that
Pioquinta Gonzalez Figueroa was born in Spain of "royalty." Therefore, this
record is critical in possibly disclaiming that story, so I want to be as
sure as possible this is her baptism record before I add this to my family
history. I have extracted only the necessary information. In the baptism
record, even though it reads "infanta india," this is not necessarily
accurate, but it does raise further questions. (Every record in the film in
these early years, label the children as one of two things: ynfante/a
yndio/a or ynfante/a lavorio/a.) I also realize the name Gonzalez is so
common and was commonly given to Indian children at baptism, and the "s" and
"z" are used interchangeably, adding to the necessity of verifying each
piece of information I acquire. Thank-you!

Nuestros Ranchos - Agualeguas, not Aqualequas

Barbara,

I believe that you are seeking Agualeguas. It isthe name of a Ciudad and
one of the 51 Municipios of the Estado de Nuevo Leon.

It was erected as a village in 1821 and the 2000 census reported that
Agualeguas (the city) had 4,492 inhabitants.
