I think I see the problem. . .you spelled it wrong. . .the correct spelling
is Valparaiso. . .unless we're talking about another place.

  

not sure I'm going to be a lot of help. But here is a map of that area. Go
to the files section under "Aahther Stuff" and click on maps and then click
on the "Good Tepechitlan" map and you'll see Valparaiso. Go to the Family
Search website and do a "place" search. When you do it for Valparaiso you'll
come up with these records:

Helping my doughter find her grandfather Tiburcio Luna born August 11,
1885 in Valpariso, Zacatecas, Mexico.  His parents are... Salome Luna
and Monica Fernandez/s.  He married Vicenta Robles, Febuaray 15, 1918 ..
place unknown.  This is all the information that my doughter got from
the Imigration deptment.

I have tried looking in the LDS to no avail.  I haven't seen Valpariso,
Zacatecas at all.  Could Valpariso be in a jurisdiction that I don't

This message is in regard to Irma Gómez's line of descent.  Very, 
very interesting.  Finally I see some Los Altos genealogy.

It seems that you and I, Irma, are both cousins, or should I say, 
primos.  My name is Steven F. Hernández, and my ancestry is also from 
the region of Jalisco known as "Los Altos."  Los Altos has 
historically been an isolated region, closed off from the rest of 
Mexico.  The area was populated by early Spanish and Basque pioneers, 
pobladores, and descendants of the conquistadors.  As a result of 
this high concentration of Spanish blood, alteños are light skinned 
and fairer than other Mexicans.  Alteños live a culture, speak a 
language, and practice a religion that is strongly Spanish/Hispanic.  
But all this is historically well known and documented.

Irma, I have 90% of the surnames in you line.  I have Gómez (which 
used to known as Gómez Hurtado de Mendoza), Arias Maldonado, Macías 
Valadéz, Muñoz (de Hermosillo), Hermosillo, Gutiérrez (de 
Hermosillo), López Muñoz de Nava, Gutiérrez (de Mendoza), etc, etc.  
In subsequent postings, I'll upload information about my family, 
including my own surname, Hernández, which comes from Arandas and Ayo 
el Chico, in southern Los Altos.  Right now check the uploaded files 
in the Files section for the pedigree charts I posted.

I just wanted to ask you, Irma, a few more questions:  Who were the 
parents of Ma. Josefa Pérez, married to Joseph María Gómez?  I'm sure 
you already know that the parents of Juana María Hermosillo were Juan 
María de Hermosillo and Ma. Rafaela Gutiérrez, right?  Well who were 
the parents of Juan de Hermosillo and Rafaela Gutiérrez?  Do you have 
them?  I'm quite sure I'll have THEM in my database.  At the moment I 
have 38,204 individuals in my program.  I hope to hear from you

I count 10 folks in the "files" section that have sent in their genealogies.
Also Deena Ortiz has hers listed in the Links section of the site. A few
in the early days of the group send in some of their work in emails and those
people need to resend it to me directly so I can put it in the files section.
After all that that leaves a big pile of  you that haven't sent in your work.




I am no longer subscribing people without them committing in writing that
they are doing their own research and that they are willing to send in their
work. Some that have agreed to this recently have sent me nothing.



I realize that some of you have soooo much work done that you probably don't
know what to send in. Here's my suggestion to get you started:



Just send me in your Straight Line Direct Line genealogy as far back as you
go. Just give me all the Great Grandparents names and their particular information.
. .remember "Location is Everything."  Later when you have time you can add
the very important fill-in info and auxiliary branches. That way we'll have
an idea of where you are working and who you are looking for.



. . .I realize I'm kind of being a little pushy about this and in order to
hone the group into the RESEARCH monster that was my original intention I'll
continue to be pushy and eventually extreme. I'm determined that some of
us are going to find our way back to Espana (yeah and I'm really hoping I'm
in that group).

Other Thoughts:



I've noticed that those of us that have sent in our genealogies are kind
of stuck in the same place around the early 1700's or late 1600's. We are
finding that the information gets scarce and the wild and fun ride we were
on up to that point get slowed waaaay down. Now here is where some of us
are going to "give up" and be satisfied with what we've found and just let
it go at that.



Others of us are going to put their heads together with other like-minded
individuals and try to figure out how we can get past those things that are
stopping us. I know for a fact that we (or at least I) need to start doing
some serious study on just the  history of those areas of Mexico. I'm talking

This is a great reference book with probably the best Bibliography of
Genealogical books on specific surnames available in the world (just my
guess). The bibliography alone is 112 pages long.

In the christening of her children Maria Narcisa Sanches is refered 
to as Maria Narcisa Sanches Castellanos and Maria Sanches 
Castellanos.  Also I have seen Maria Castellanos, and I assumed that 
it was perhaps the same person??? The couple did have a daughter 
named Maria Francisca, but I have her married to a Jesus Robles, I 
have to check my notes and see where I got that information.

Do you know if your Maria Francisca married anyone else other than 
Antonio Casas?  This is probably not the same family, but I don't 
know.

I re-did all my family files in the files section.  I found a 
new "report" in my family program.  I like it a lot better than the 
report I was using before.  It shows families from the bottom-up 
instead of the top-down.

Take a look at the files when you get a chance.  Here is the short 
description of the files.  (I didn't click the notify group of new 
file option.)

Hello all!
 
I want to introduce myself to your group.  My name is Rosalinda Ruiz, 
and I've been working on my family tree for some time.  After 
interviewing my grandparents about their ancestors, I never really 
believed I would make any connections to more distant ancestors.  
Then I discovered three things in the period of six months last year 
(and this is truly inspirational for those who think discovering 
their family genealogy may never happen).  First, last April,  I 
visited www.rootsweb.com and typed in some family names.  I had done 
this periodically in the past, with no success.  However, I decided 
to try again, and I found a message that matched my BANUELOS family 
information!  The ancestor names and locations matched perfectly, so 
I emailed the person mentioned.  I found my second cousin once 
removed!  We shared information, and were finally able to meet last 
summer.  We also determined that we had met previously, in March of 
last year, when I took a group of students from Southern California 
to visit UC Davis, which is near Sacramento.  He was a part of a 
presentation to my students.  At the time we didn't know we were 
related, but by sheer coincidence we discovered our connection.  
Every time I share that story it gives me goose bumps.  One ancestor 
we share is Claro BANUELOS, who once owned the RANCHOS LAS BOCAS and 
RANCHO DE LAS PENAS outside of Huejucar, Jalisco.  My cousin has a 
copy of the deed of sale.  I believe Claro's parents are Jesus 
BANUELOS and Josefa  DEL REAL.  Claro married Vicenta HARO.
 
The second wonderful thing was visiting the www.familysearch.org 
website.  I had tried searching on there before, with very little 
success.  But, I tried again, and there were many of my ancestors and 
relatives.  My paternal grandmother was born a SANDOVAL in Totatiche, 
Jalisco, and left when she was about 11.  She gave me names of her 
grandparents, but didn't know anybody before that.  She said, "I 
think ROJAS was a name of our ancestors, but I can't remember."  
After searching on the website, names began to match.  My great-
grandfather is on the website, along with his parents' names, which 
matched what my grandmother remembered.  My great-uncle, her older 
brother, then remembered that Urbano SANDOVAL, my great-great-
grandfather, was from Huejucar, Jalisco.  I haven't found Urbano's 
ancestors yet.  However, while my SANDOVAL line is still a mystery, I

different surname.  I read somewhere, can't remember where, that 
Godoy, Godina, and Godinez, are all derrived from the same surname.

On second thought I have seen Godoy spelled Bodoy.  Perhaps they are 
alternate spellings of one other.....

I saw your Antonio Ponce descendants file.  I too am searching a 
family you had listed.  Jose Cayetano Grano and Efigenia de la Rosa 
De La Covarrubias are my Great(x6)-Grandparents!  I will include a 
file of the information that I have on that couple soon, so we can 
compare.  I also have information on Maria Ynes Godina and Jose 
Antonio Jara.  I am distintantly related to Maria Ynes Godina and 
that is why I have information on that family.  I guess I know find 
out that I am also related to Jose Antonio Jara.  I also have 
information on Maira Sixta Sanchez and Jose Rafael Jara.  I am 
distintantly related to Maria Sixta Sanchez, on my Sanchez Side.  
Didn't relize that I was also connected on the Jara side.

It would be great if we could share information.  Would it be 
possible for me to get information on your sources for the ancestors 
of Jose Cayetano Grano and Efigenia de la Rosa De La Covarrubias.  I 
think I am set on their descendants, but have no information on their 
ancestors.  I haven't been able to find any Marriage or Christening 
information on them.  So I didn't know the names of their parents 
until I saw your attachment.  Any information you can give me would 
be greatly appreciated for both the Covarrubias and Grano families.

I just uploaded Arturo Romero's 12 Ancestoral files to the "files" section.

This is great Arturo. I haven't had a chance to thoroughly look through
them but hope to get to them soon...thanks!

Now this should be a great example to everyone. . .common everyone send
in your files and we'll really be able to see if our Genealogies cross
somewhere in Jalisco or Zacatecas.

Last time I counted there were 29 members of the group and these are the

so if you must put them in an email send them directly to me and I'll
upload them to that area. Don't forget the "message" archives are now
open to the Public. . .if that makes a difference to anyone.

. . .so at most there are 10 of you all accounted for and 19 that have
not submitted their genealogies. Now I understand that some or even most
of you might be new researchers and don't have the deeper and extensive
lines compared to what has already been submitted, but that doesn't
matter. Submit your info and as we do our research we can keep an eye
out for your relatives.

(Currently as new people are requesting to join the group I am sending
out a letter trying to get a verbal committment that the joiner is
willing to submit their genealogy and that they are serious researchers
doing their own research. . .if I don't get a favorable reply to my
email I won't be accepting the applicant to the group.)

Yes the Informacion Matrimonial films can be wonderful sources of info.
Yes sometimes disappointing but more times wonderful. 3-5 pages of info
about the couple then the groom then the bride then usually three
Testigos, testaments from people who knew the couple saying they weren't
related. I saw a record from Huejucar that Kitty Cortez sent me that had
4 generations of genealogy inserted. Yes there might be some wonderful
surprises awaiting you in these records.
