As for me, I am searching some of the same surnames (Luna, Huizar, 
Castaneda, Serrano, Campos, Robles, Sandoval, plus many more) and in 
the same cities (Momax and Tlaltenango, plus areas in Jalisco) that 
you are.  I didn't find any people in common when I looked at your 
list, but perhaps you will recognize a name or two of mine.  Please 
take a look at my files in the files sections.  Please let me know if 
you recognize anything.

Have I been asleep or what? I didn't even know these were there until I
just happened upon them.

Thanks to Steven there are many new pages in the Bibliograpy section of

Alicia, Hello neighbor, well, sort of....I am in Fremont, but l left my heart in San Jose after living there for many years. At the Family History Center in San Jose, on Thursday nights, directing the center, is a fantastic lady, Patsy Ludwig.

Patsy has been researching in Mexico, for I believe, about 20 years. Patsy CO-wrote "A Beginner's Guide to Hispanic Genealogy." Needless to say, Patsy is very knowledgeable. I am sure Patsy will be a great resources to set you on track for your guest in Genealogy.

When I visited the Family History Center in San Jose, there were many patrons there, and the allotted time was one hour at the film reader. By then again, I am sure the attendance varies.



Currently, I research in Fremont. The center is in South Fremont, at the Milpitas City limit. Most of the time I am the only patron at the center, and have full use of the film readers.

Okay I've found a wonderful place to put a lot of the info found in the

Hello Joseph and Hello to this group, Los Ranchos de Jalisco and
Zacatecas. Thanks for the invitation to join, I feel that I'm in very
good company having read some of the group's previous communications.

My name is Alicia Carrillo (married name) My maiden name is Alicia
Avelar Olmos and I was born in Tlachichila Zacatecas. I have not
found any information in the Charles Clark files that would lead me
to my descendants. Through the years I have heard many of the
surnames mentioned here such as Delgadillo, Vallin, Esparza, Ruiz,
Ruvalcaba, Munoz, Jauregui/Xauregui (spelling either way).

I look forward to not only what I can gain from this association but
to what I can contribute. I have recently begun my ancestral journey
and can't even begin to imagine where this will take me.

Being part of a group will definitely inspire me to accelerate my
search.

My father was Restituto Avelar Aguayo. His parents were Pascual
Avelar Garcia and Rebecca Aguayo. Pascual's father was Martin Avelar
and his mother was Tiburcia Garcia. This information I just gleened
from my mom. My father is deceased and I did not have much contact
with his side of the family.

My mother is Esperanza Olmos and her parents were Lauro Olmos Avelar
and Maria del Refugio Ruiz Esparza also from Nochistlan/Tlachichila.
My abuelo Lauro's parents were Deciderio Olmos Jauregui and Francisca
Avelar Munoz. Deciderios parents were Prudencio Olmos and Juanita
Jaruegui. My abuela Maria del Refugio's parents were Refugio Ruiz and
Vidala Esparza.

This is all that I've been told but I don't have any data to verify
this yet.

It is my intention to get going on this and if anyone has any data
from this region, I'd appreciate any and all help I can get.

Wow Steven you've sure given Jose Rizo a great boost in finding his
genealogy.

Jose let us know if you have any trouble finding info on how to order
your films or the mechanics of this procedure.

This is great. . .you've discovered a wonderful relative and help in
your search for your roots.

Hello everyone in the Ranchos Group,



I wanted to address and comment on José Rizo's recent discoveries and good fortune over having Arandas roots.  As of yet José's lines are still much too recent for me be of any help, but as far as Arandas resources are concerned, I have tons of info. 



Over 50% of all my lines came from Arandas.  I have more information regarding Arandas genealogy than any other town in Los Altos put together, and this also includes the nearby towns of Ayo el Chico and Jesús María included. 



From our first messages, José mentioned that his grandfather's name was José-Guadalupe Rizo Angel, son of Estanislao and Felicitas Angel.  Just yesterday, or the other day, he mentioned that Estanislao was the son of Antonio Rizo and Feliciana González.  Well upon further investigation, I did happen to find the marriage of Estanislao Rizo in 1891, but to Ma. Guadalupe Padilla Morillo.  Look:

The James Ford Bell Library at the University of Minnesota provides the
Historical Maps page as part of their main Web site. Users can view more
than fifty maps online, each of which contain a short description of what
the map is depicting. One example is a navigational map of Africa and the
Atlantic and Indian Oceans that was designed to illustrate the first Dutch
expedition to Java undertaken by Cornelis de Houtman in 1597. The maps can
be viewed in fine detail and are quite fascinating to view and learn about.
Anyone interested in history, cartography, or other similar subjects should

Others can add to this. . .I'd say that you need to find your local
Family History Center and pay it a visit. It is a small genealogical
library that is part of the Larger Family History Library of Salt Lake
City. There are many branches all over the world and probably one close
to you. You don't need to be a member of the LDS Mormon church to use
these facilities and the cost for viewing film is very affordable.

To find your closest Family History Center go to this webpage:

click on the tab at the top labeled "Library"

The on the next window click on the Link for  "Family History Centers."

fill in all the info asked for and see if there is a Family History
Center (FHC) close to you. I and a couple of others are Volunteers at
FHC's. I'm not a Mormon and they have let me do this. I'm learning a lot
about non-Hispanic Genealogy by working there every other Thursday.

Anyway don't be concerned about unwanted prostelization because the
church is very good about not preaching to those that don't want to hear
it.

After you've found your local FHC give them a call and find their hours.
Go pay them a visit and they will give you a tour and you will suddenly
be introduced to a lifetime of available materials to study on your
genealogy.

My mane is Jose Rizo and I am looking for informaton About my great-
gradfather Estanislao Rizo. Steven Harnandez told me to look in some 
microfilms from las parroqias de arandas and I think familysearch.org 
might have them, bt I do not know how to access them or look at them. 
Can some one please explain to me how to look for microfilms and how 
to view them.  

Okay we're at 17K out of the 20K allowance in the "Files" section. I'm
going to delete the 1817 Census pages. have a look at them and if they
are of your area download them to your computer. If later you want them
again let me know and I'll email them to you off group.

In your quote "hijo legitimo y vivo natural de {women's name}" where 
you have {woman's name} does the record show the mother's name?  Or 
is it a town's name?  Because natural could also mean native of...
Most of the marriage records I've examined usually specify the 
person's place of origin and current place of residence to identify 
the parrish they belong to.  For example, "Gregorio Orozco hijo 
legítimo de Juan Orozco y Maria González, natural de Santa María y 
vecino de San Nicolás parroquia de Ixtlahuacán el tiempo de 2 años..."

I don't mean to confuse things, but sometimes I've had to re-read  
records two or three times to decipher the meaning. It also helps to 
read other records from the same book to see what format the priest 
(or notario) followed and just to familiarize yourself with the 
handwriting.
