TEST SITE - DO NOT USE - Development only

Finally a question close enough for me to respond with the recent 3
files uploaded to the Dr. Platt Census records area. These 3 new scans
are the Acronyms to the Census records that are not in the Family
History Library Catalog.

As to the question I don't know about the 1740's or 1750's but the 1760
Colotlan Census can be found at "AGI Guadalajara 401."

In the Acronym pages you will find that AGI stands for: Archivo General
de Indias, Seville, Spain

Hi Angie,

I was wondering if you can give us a brief summary of what all is on the
Film you are looking at for the 1820 Census? I looked at Dr. Platt's
pages from the files section and see that that film is listed for
several cities in Jalisco and Zacatecas. The section that covers Jerez
is that many many pages. . .I have no idea how big of a city it was in
1820. You didn't happen to notice an Puente names there did you?

I guess I'm not asking for a detailed report but just a something giving
the area of coverage. Maybe if others in the group have other census
films we can slowly start mapping out what areas the census cover so we
can see if we can figure out how they went about doing the census in the
different years. I know when you look at the LDS film numbers you have
no clue. but Dr. Platt helps out much in what is where, but still there
is a lot of info missing for us to make better sense of these census films.

I found an interesting film that will really come in handy one day. .
.it is an idex to the census' from about 1750-1860 but it is for the
census' you can find at the National Archive in Mexico City.. . anyone
going that way any time soon?

I just check my PAF and find Jose Carlos Godina married 14 Mar 1781 
Totatiche, Jal to Maria Encarnacion Sanches.  FHL  M617071 1755-1807  
1164031 Parroquia Records.   I also show Maria Encarnacion Sanches 
father to be Lorenzo Sanches and mother Maria Peres.  This must have 
shown on the Family Search site,  my own documentation does not show 
I have cert. on file.  But Rich and I are going to FHL in SLC next 
month and will look up the film.  My  own film log does not show  it 
on file at SLC so I will order it and have it ready for our next trip 
this coming June 19th.  I don't have any other information on Maria 
Peres.

I just noticed that Family Search.org uses the same batch number and 
film number for Parroquia Records and Vital Records.  Wonder how that 
can be.  
By clicking on Maria Encarnacion Sanches' name, I picked up her 
parents of Lorenzo Sanches and Maria Peres.   
 
I also don't show any other children for Godina/Sanches than the two 
you mentioned.

In going to my LDS here in Kansas City, they told me all batch numbers
are not listed for certain towns and in certain time periods.  Villanueva
is one of my towns I'm researching (My brick wall too) and I haven't been
able to come up with batch numbers for the time period 1750-1800's. 
Also I'm doing research in La Piedad, Michaocan and they didn't have batch
numbers for this town either.

I was wondering if you ever found additional information on Jose 
Carlos Godina.  I remember I sent you information on two children of 
his, Nasario and Petra.  Do you know if he had any other children?

I was recently looking at the 1820 Census of Totatiche.  I don't have 
it in front of me but from memory.... In the Cartagenas Ranch section 
there was about ten families.  One was widow Carlos Godina living 
with I believe a granchild (a Sandoval), then Narsario Godina and 
family, and Petra Godina and family.  There was my Perez Family, whom 
as I told you before, was godson of Carlos's Parents, Christobal 
Godina and Clara Ramos.  Then there was a Eucebia Godina with 
family.  I believe Eucebia was related to my Godina family.   So I 
was wondering if she is a daughter to Carlos Godina?  The other 
families I think had the surname of Carrillo and maybe Lopez.  I 
didn't recoginize them, so now I don't remember who they were.

I wonder if my Perez family is also related to your Godina Family?  
Or perhaps they were just neighbors and friends.

WOW. . .I never knew about this. by the looks of it they don't have batch
info past that 1860 period. . .well thats good and bad. But the good part
is that I'll just have to order some films from there and hope to find my
GGGGG grandfather Cosme del Muro there.

I had two uncles who were given the name Alejandro.  They were both born on
March 17 (different years, of course) which is the saint's day of Alejandro
and Patricio.  My grandfather believed in naming his children after their
saint's name.  The first Alejandro died in infancy.  Well, years later the
second Alejandro was born on March 17 too.  Hence, he was given the name
Alejandro Segundo.  The first Alejandro was always referred to as Alejandro
Primero.  This is just my experience....

Saw some christening records (mid 1700's) in the addendum 
listing Colotlan as the christening place but says the christening 
records were extracted from Ameca.  Since my ancestor was 
supposedly born in Ameca and married in Colotlan,  I am 
wondering if there is a connection between these two places that 
seem so far apart. I called the Salt Lake extractions department 
and they have no idea why there is a discrepancy.  Any ideas?

ps: I just got back from Washington DC. I went to the National Archives for
an introduction. I'd advise this as a source of info to anyone that has some
roots in the US. Of course that is not in the topic of this group and I'd
be glad to talk to anyone off group about my brief introduction to the Archives.
I also got some great photos of  some of the monuments and of my cousin,
Miguel Puentes' name that is on the Vietnam War memorial. There is a lot
of stuff about Mexico at the Archives but probably harder to find I'm guessing.



pps: I did find a map at the archives that had a Rancho on it named Refugio
and I was wondering if that might have been a map of the area before the
name turned to Tabasco, Zacatecas. . .I'm unsure.

Arturo have you tried the Civil Registers yet?  I couldn't find my
grandfather's birth record but found all his siblings in baptismal (church)
records.  I then tried the civil registers for 1888 and finally found
it.  I believe civil registers began around 1870 and going forward
buy I would try that next.   "Good luck"
