entitled Peru and Mexico. Very interesting and pertinent to our

Jauregui/Lomeli

Does anyone know why the Lomeli's and Jauregui's had such a close relationship that many of them married each other?

There's no clear cut answer to your questions but here are a few scenarios.

All of us see the same situations, different surnames but same circumstances within our family groups. There are several things occurring when families inter-marry.

1. These families, the Jauregui's and the Lomeli's or Lomelini's lived within very close proximity of each other.
2. Both of these families, the Lomeli's and the Jauregui's were for the most part, Espanoles and usually they wanted their children to marry only Espanoles.
3. There were only a couple of handfuls of Spanish families in each community or Rancho.

4. Courting was strictly supervised by the parents, in many cases, the parents decided whom their daughters could court. I don't say date because dating was for the most part, non-existent. The groom to be's parents would visit the bride to be's parents to ask for her hand in marriage, meaning that they had to approve and ensure that the bride or the groom came from an approved family.

My first cousins have one of the Jauregui and Lomelin unions in their ancestry. They descend from an Henrique Jauregui and Ma. Antonia Lomeli that I believe came from Mexticacan but left many descendents in Tepatitlan and Valle de Guadalupe, Jalisco. I have not had any luck finding their parents.

Hi-

It is so helpful to see such a comprehensive trail of where the family came and went along with why they went where they did. I just recently found a connection to the Ornelas as I am directly related on my maternal grandmother's side to the Diaz de Sandi line below who married into the Ornelas Villasenor line.

Does the Ornelas Villasenor line tie into any Ornelas line that you have?

Thanks,

Does anyone know if the Villasenor line here ties into the Villasenor or Villasenor y Jazo lines in Zapotlan el Grande/Ciudad Gusman, or Tamazula, Jalisco Mexico?  My earliest record for a Villasenor line has them in Angamacutiro De La Union,Michoacan, Pedro Villasenor Orosco and wife Maria Jazo who had a son, Felix Gerardo Villasenor y Jaso living in Tamazula Jalisco by 1725 with his wife Leonor Munguia.  I have not been able to find where the Munguia family came from before arriving in the 1600's in Tamazula.

Is anyone working these lines?

I've been busily downloading images from pilot.familysearch.org.

Does anyone know how to bypass the adobe flash player and find the
image files directly? If I could do this I could automate the process
and reduce a several-month project to a few days.

On other sites I've been able to right-click and look at properties
and figure out the image filename and address. But I can't figure out

Yes Miggi, anyone can have access to the images. Simply go to Pilot, click where it reads Canada, USA, Mexico. A list of places by country will appear. At the bottom you will find Mexico, and the sites available to: Browse unindexed images. Click there, and you will get the names of the parishes. Once you choose a parish, you will have a list of records by type (e.g., baptismos) and a year range. Click, and it will open the image of the book, begining with the book's cover. You can then move to the pages of interest. For marriages, confirmations and baptisms, most images appear for most part in chronological order. However, Informacion Matrimoniales are not in order, and finding the one you want may take hours.

Regarding Stuart's question about bypassing Adobe. I do not have that issue. It must be something related to the preferences of your browser. In my Mac I use Camino, and in my PC, I use Mozilla FireFox. In both, the images load rather rapidly without invoking an external

Hi,
I can't read the name of the Pueso, but it indeed seems to start with Sal...
The full name of the first wife was Maria de San Juan de Leon, it is unclear if San Juan is part of her given name or ofher surname.
The name of Damiana's mother is also hard to read. Could be Matiana or Mariana, it is hard to read. A variant of the name Anastacia is Ana Estacia, or just Estacia, and maybe someone could also write as Nastacia or Nestacia.

David,

Romo de Vivar is a compound surname. The patriarch of this family was Diego Romo de Vivar born 12 March 1589 in Rielves, Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha. He married María Rangel Peguero in somewhere in Mexico and they settled down in Aguascalientes and their descendants spread to different parts of Jalisco including Lagos de Moreno. Many of us, including myself multiple times, descend from Diego Romo de Vivar.

El Cid Campeador, named Rodrigo Díaz, was supposedly born in Vivar, Burgos, España and it is why he is called Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodrigo_D%C3%ADaz_de_Vivar#Nacimiento

We have yet to learn of where the Romo de Vivar surname originates but it is very likely Diego Romo de Vivar had an ancestor that was from Vivar, Burgos. I doubt that there is any relation to El Cid Campeador.

I have not been able to find the paternal grandparents of Isabel Romo de Vivar but there is a dispensa for her parents - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18413

Vivar is not an abbreviated surname.
In Mexico there's a TV character named el Señor Barriga, played by Edgar Vivar.
And el Cid's name was Rodrigo Diaz de Vibar.

Eufracio Macias y Victoria de Lara tuvieron otro hijo llamado Jose Cecilio en Teul. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15697-17224-4?cc=1804458&wc=…

Census Records

Does anyone have suggestions for finding census records of Indios living on the Hacienda de Garabato and Hacienda de Parades in Aguascalientes in the 1700s? Do such records exist?

Jose,

According to Lyman Platt's book, census records for Latin America, he shows
that there are several rolls of film for Aguascalientes' census records.
This appears to imply that the Census records may be mixed in with the
parish Baptismal records, however this doesn't define the parishes in
Aguascalientes where the records may be found, only the years.

Jose,

It's probably not a book you need to get because it doesn't actually have
the census records. What it does, is to give the film numbers for the
census records of the Mexico Municipios and most of that information you
can find on-line now a days. If there's some film number for any specific
municipio that you'd like for me to look up, I'd be happy to do that and

At the Family Search catalog search page, start typing "Mexico, Aguascalientes" in the box, when it comes up in the list, click on it in the list, then click on search.

When you click on search you will get a number of topics ... select "Mexico, Aguascalientes - Census" this will take you to "Padrones parroquiales : antigua Diócesis de Michoacán, 1734-1875." From the link for Michoacan Catholic Church Records, go to Morelia, then Arquidiocesis de Morelia, and finally scroll down to the Padrones.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page before following the link for Michoacan Catholic Church Records you will get a list of the padrones that have been filmed, and it gives the area each covers.

156 Missing Images

At the end of FHL microfilm 635747, after 30 feet or so of blank film, at the extreme end of the roll, are 156 images that have never been digitized.

I don't have any idea about what you can legally do with the images on this roll of microfilm, but thanks for the heads-up! This is one of the rolls that I recently ordered for indefinite loan to an LDS Family History Center in Denver. I haven't yet had a chance to look at the film but will do so soon, now armed with your alert about the images following a blank spot on the film. Muchas gracias.

Thank you for sharing this discovery. I'm sure it will help us who do serious Aguascalientes research in the future. As a independent scholar, historian and researcher on the side, you should publish it. Present it as your own contribution to the field of study and also a genealogical society, maybe Nueva Galicia Genealogical Society. I have so much to publish, I have to get around it.

One option would be to create an extracted list of those images with at least date, child, parents. If someone had more time, they could add the location of the birth.

The list could be posted here are NR. I'm some of our colleagues here would appreciate it.

I think what you are seeing is a manifestation of what the real citation is for the reference.

As an example, the marriage of Jose Maria Rivera and Maria Trinidad Puga on Jan. 30, 1863, at San Antonio de Padua, Cuale: Family Search gives the citation as

"México, Jalisco, registros parroquiales, 1590-1979," images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18568-39968-25?cc=1874591&wc… : accessed 29 Mar 2014), Cuale > San Antonio Padua > Matrimonios 1826-1912 > image 164 of 437.

This citation is actually composed of two parts:

(1) Where the record is located on the digitized film ... "México, Jalisco, registros parroquiales, 1590-1979," Cuale > San Antonio Padua > Matrimonios 1826-1912 > image 164 of 437.
(2) Where the image was located on the day it was accessed ... FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18568-39968-25?cc=1874591&wc… : accessed 29 Mar 2014)

What is lacking

Thank you, George, and agreed: we can't expect the images to remain at the same location forever.

As a note, I just discovered, if you're using an older link, when the "Oops…" error page appears, if you remove everything after the "&" in the URL, you will be redirected to the page you're requesting.

These are all relevant tips for the group. Gracias a todos!

What you mentioned about removing everything in the URL after the '&' is what worked for me. At first I freaked out for about a second, then started removing sections of the URL until it worked, like going to a Parent Directory from a filename.

Also, I had started adding the image # of the film to my file spreadsheet of records, so at least I had a second backup plan for much of my work.

The only thing is since the majority of my family tree entries have a URL referencing the actual record in addition to the transcriptions I've done of the records, now I have to go back and update all those again, but at least I know where to make the change in the URL. Annoying, but not fatal.

Crisis averted, yay!

This happened to me also a while back, hours of research lost. I was not able to use old URL's again. So I started saving the actual image to my computer and cropping it, I also use this image as the ancestor picture on my ancestry.com tree for reference and back up.I know how you feel about loosing hours of research.
Good Luck

Thanks, Juan!!!! Though an inconvenience, at least I know I won't have to search for each individual document again! It shouldn't be too difficult to go through the above list and make those changes, so I will post it in this forum when I'm finished.

And Ruben, I do the same: I also use Ancestry.com for my main tree, and I download and save then upload the entire image to the tree, tagging all individuals mentioned, thus linking the family members that way. Doing this, I also know when an individual is documented. But I do this only for my direct ancestors and their immediate families; to save time & space, I use the links to the original documents for associated individuals and families (I currently have over 8000 individuals in my tree).

Along with my research notes, I used to list the film roll's name/number & image number ("bautismos 1767-1867 ROLL# img#") in the comments section of each individual, with the URL, but I stopped, thinking it wasn't really necessary. But apparently

Alicia Avelar Olmos de Carrillo I save all of my documents with the film#, Book or Volume#, Image#, Page or Foja# all this information I save in the notes section of my database. I crop each document and archive it in my database, then I save it in the Amazon Cloud.

By creating a folder for each film# referenced, it makes it easy to find when needed. Here's an example of how I title the folder.
115602-Matrimonios, Villa Hidalgo-Vol#6-1860-1893.
Any marriage record that falls within this time period will be archived in this folder with the respective names of the bride and groom, page#, image# date of marriage and name of the Rancho or Ranchos they were from.

Hours? How about years.
A long time ago you could download an image and save it on your own harddisk. The default filename was about a 12-digit image number that uniquely identified that image. Sweet. Only you couldn't plug the filename in anywhere and get to the image. I thought that image number would be permanent, and hoped someday they would use the number for part of a link. But it never happened.

For that reason and because the internet was slow and unreliable, I started a project of downloading as many images as I could. At first it was OK, and the default filename was a handy way to store things. I began using the filename in my citations. Then they made a change and the filename was no longer visible, and everything defaulted to something like image00001. So I had to manually create a new filename with each image. And I had to develope a new system of naming image files. I incorporated the image xxx of xxx in my filenames.

Then they re-did everything and combined and split

Hello,
I had the same problem. Frustrating indeed! However if you delete everything past the "?" on the URLs, then you'll arrive to the original page you had bookmarked. You may have to update all your bookmarks, but at least you won't have to hunt them down all over again. Not sure why they did that, but it makes you wonder if we should be saving the actual documents and not just the links to the documents?

Very interesting!

It does say his father was "indio cacique" and so was his mother, so it is very possible that they were part of the Indian ruling class of Tonala.

it's not the first bizarre thing i found but it's the most intriging though since i thought one had to be 7/8+ spanish descent in order to become a theologian.

a few other bizarre finds i've come accross are:1. a 'mulato esclavo' marrying a spanish woman(can't remember where i found it, but i think it happened during the 1700's. I didn't think a male slave could marry a freed spanish female)
2.A drawing of a lion holding a shield(can't remember where i found it exactly, but i think it may have been in the beginning of soem marriage dispensation collection, just not sure which one)
3. a marriage dispensation simply refering to a common ancestor as 'gachupin europeo' https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18414-94456-29?cc=1874591&wc…

4. a map found within a marriage dispensation collection https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18415-10524-77?cc=1874591&wc…
