I just found out the hard way that anyone can change, delete, merge and add people to the free version of Family Tree from familysearch.

Someone merged my tree with theirs and It erased about 900 ancestors and 3 to 5 generations. I am so glad I keep another tree on ancestry.com and a Gedcom File in three different laptops for backup updating weekly.

Although I love familysearch for research, I was not aware that others can change your tree and erase years of research.

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to figure a few things on a marriage record on my own to no avail.

1. There is an abbreviation after the name of the groom's mother that I can't read. Her name is Ma. Simona Araiza (pcto.?). Has anyone else seen this abbreviation? Any idea what it means?

2. There is also the bride's mother's name that I can't fully make out. I think it might be Lorenza Gertrudis Florencia. Is Florencia a given name or her surname? The summary on the side of the record shows a different surname than the one shown in the body of the record. I can't make it out, but it doesn't look like Florencia.

3. It states Jose Eufracio Araiza is from Ixtlapuacan. I researched this and couldn't find it. I did find some Ixtlahuacan locations. There is an Ixtahuacan del Rio and Ixtahuacn de los Membrillos that are closer to Guadalajara. I also found an Ixtlahuacan de Santiago, but that is in Union de Tula. Has anyone heard of Ixtapuacan?

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

The DNA of a 12 year old child buried about 10,620 B.C. in western Montana http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v506/n7487/full/nature13025.html was uploaded to Gedmatch. Some of you that have uploaded your DNA to Gedmatch show to be a match to this child.

The study had already shown that the child was more closely related to Mexican Indians but how close is the real surprise.

If you want to see if you match the Clovis Anzick-1 individual log in to Gedmatch then go to 'One-to-one' compare then put your Gedmatch account number in the Kit Number 1: field then put F999912 in the Kit Number 2: field then click on submit.

Reading thru church marriage records from the 1700's and 1800's, I find myself wondering who could of adopted children that had no parents. I have seen plenty of marriage records which read "hijo adoptivo" or "hija adoptiva".

My question is:

Would these children most likely be adopted by the "Padrinos" or would they be taken in by immediate relatives.

I have a marriage document for one of my ancestors that indicates that he was and adopted child and he went on to carry the adoptive mothers surname and not the adoptive fathers surname.

Is there any chance that a male adopted child would take on the mothers surname (adoptive mother) instead of the adoptive father so as to continue his "real" surname.

This action makes me wonder if his adoptive mother (aunt, madrina etc) was directly related to his real father and therefore made it easier for him to carry his real surname.

How common was adoption during the 1600's, 1700's and 1800's ?

Were padrinos held responsible for fulfilling their obligation of taking care of a child that lost his parents?

Why does a marriage record of an adopted child not indicate that the parents were "difuntos" and list the parents by name and then list the adoptive parents by name.

This kind of leads me to believe that the child lost his parents at a very very young age and it was best to honor and list the adoptive parents who raised the child from birth.

If the child was an illegitimate child the marriage record would say "padres no conocidos". Right?

Hope someone can shed some light on this topic

Can someone please help me out?  I used to be able to isolate and print specific entries from any page on Familysearch.  
Since the new format, I'm now unable to even print a full page, much less a specific entry.  What am I doing wrong?  Help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much.

I found a copy of the 2nd edition of this book at Harvard University Libraries in Cambridge and will be viewing it next week. I can't check it out, but will have access to a scanner and copier.

I am currently working on my Pompa line out of Calvillo that has always been a mystery. One of those ancestors that suddenly appear out of nowhere. *Alien spaceship ancestors, as I call them* Would anyone know where Cuesta Blanca is? My Prudenciano Pompa came from there. He does have a sister that according to her marriage document states she was from Guanajuato. I have not been able to find neither of their baptisms. Their mother was a Hernandez from Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes. I have traced her line already as it appears I am now related to two Hernandez brothers.

My ancestor Fernando Javier Rivera y Moncada bought the ranch in the 1700s. I would like to know if anyone knows if there is a cemetery on the property or if that would be the incorrect thing to do? Did people bury all people in churches or cemeteries or did they have private cemeteries?

If any of you ever go to downtown Ciudad of Zacatecas? And you pass through the hotel, "Meson Del Jobito?" There are two large paintings of the Second Conde and his wife of the Hacienda of San Mateo on the wall near the receiptionist. We have seen it when my woman and me took a short cut through the block by passing through the hotel. When I saw those paintings, I told my woman who they are.

He estado investigando, desde hace 7 años el àrbol genealogico de el apellido De Garibaldo. He llegado hasta diez generaciones atraz y estoy detenido a causa de que ya no encuentro registros. I recently traced my ancestry to Sebastian Merino and Thomasa de la Cruz (Rodriguez?) from Aguascalientes. I descend from them through their daughter Rosa Maria de Arenas who married Juan Salado de Aguilar.
Here is the burial info of my ancestor Rosa Maria de Arenas:

Now, at first I thought that this Sebastian Merino was the same Sebastian who was son of Bernabe Merino and Maria Gutierrez, but then I read on his testament that this Sebastian was married three times: first with Juana del Castillo, then to Maria de Jaen and lastly to Nicolasa Ruiz de Esparza. He never mentions his marriage with Thomasa de la Cruz (Rodriguez?).

But then, on the last paragraph of his testament he states that a piece of land should be given to his "hijos naturales" Nicolas Merino and Sebastian de Arenas. His last son made me suspect that he has to be somewhat related to my ancestor Rosa Maria de Arenas.

Then, I found the burial info of Sebastian de Arenas (he has the same parents of Rosa Maria de Arenas). I believe this Sebastian de Arenas is the one on Sebastian Merino's testament.

Now, this got more confusing because I ended up finding the marriage record and marriage dispensation of Sebastian Merino (de Arenas) and Thomasa Rodriguez, not sure if it is the same Thomasa de la Cruz. They married on 13 Nov 1689 in Aguascalientes. On his dispensation he is "hijo exposito."

But then if this was the Sebastian Merino who married three times, then he would also be marrying Nicolasa Ruiz de Esparza during the same time, exactly months after his marriage with Thomasa Rodriguez. Thanks to George Fulton's indexes matrimoniales, I found the index of la informacion of Sebastian Merino and Nocolasa Ruiz de Esparza on 22 Nov 1689 in Aguascalientes. This is really really fast to re-marry, not only that but Sebastian's former spouse as stated in the index is Maria de Jaen, not Thomasa. Unless, this Thomasa Rodriguez is not the same Thomasa de la Cruz and therefore mother of Rosa Maria and Sebastian.

Is anyone familar with Sebastian Merino's family and descendants?

I am really confused, I hope I explained myself good.
