Joseph Diaz Tiscareño and Jacinta Ortega

Can anyone confirm whether Joseph Dias Tiscareño married to Jacinta Ortega, is the son of Baltazar Diaz and Beatriz Tiscareño (daughter of Luis T. and Lorenza R.de E) born on May 24th 1663?

I am trying to find the names of the parents of Jasinta de Ortega married to Joseph Dias (Altamirano) Tiscareño on 12 FEB 1679 in Aguascalientes. Their parents are not listed in the marriage record, and unfortunately, I have not been able to find the marriage information in Pilot. However, Jasinta died on 10 March 1729 in Aguascalientes, and she wrote a last will. I wonder if someone could help me track that document (perhaps Paco) to see if her parents are listed in there.

Comment

Jaime,

Just like you, I have spent several hours trying to find out who Jacinta de
Ortega's parents were, but so far have been unable to find a reliable source
such as her final will or testament. After a careful analysis of other
families living in the area at the time, I came to the conclusion that her
parents were Juan de Estrada Bocanegra and Margarita de Ortega. Here is the
proof. The parents of Margarita de Ortega were Francisco Macías Valadez and
Jacinta de Ortega, grandmother of the Jacinta de Ortega who married Joseph
Díaz de Anda Altamirano. The timeline fits perfectly well and, as you know,
people in those days used to give their children the name of a beloved
grandparent or earlier ancestor.

Let me know what you think.

This only makes sense! In my notes I had listed Jacinta de Ortega II as Jacinta de Ortega y Estradaso she did appear sometimes as Estrada and/or Ortega. I was puzzled for while as to whowere her parents! Thanks Bill, BTW do you know who are the parents of this Juan Estrada-Bocanegra?IS is the same don Juan who married Teresa Carrillo de Sandi?

You were right, Jasinta is listed as "de Hortega i Estrada" in the christening of her son Ignacio. The record reads as follows.

I think that with this evidence, Bill's hypothesis is very strong.

I don't know who the parents of this Juan de Estrada Bocanegra were but I do
know that he married twice. The first time he married Margarita de Ortega
on 26 Feb 1661 (daughter of Francisco Macías Valadez y Jacinta de Ortega)
and when she died he married María de Laris on 09 Dec 1669. Both weddings
took place in Aguascalientes. This is NOT the same Juan de Estrada
Bocanegra who married Theresa de Sandi on 26 Jun 1657 in Aguascalientes.
They were contemporaries and possibly related.

Daniel,
Yes, it should be "Flores de Robles" regardless that in the marriage record was transcribed as 'Flores de la Torre'. In the "Informacion Matrimonial" it is clearly spelled as Manuela Flores de Robles, daughter of Sebastian Flores de Robles and Apolonia Castaneda. I think the clerc got confused with the surname of the priest that was Flores de la Torre.
Manuela had at least one brother, Eusebio Flores de Robles who married Maria Dolores Vigil Joven, in Charcas, San Luis Potosi on 3 Dic 1753. Apolonia was daughter of Nicolas Castaneda and Antonia Vargas Machuca.

I am related to José and Jacinta they are my 8th great grandparents. Here's the weird thing his children use Díaz y Tiscareño while he himself uses Díaz de Anda. There are only to cases where a Tiscareño marries a Díaz in early Aguas. Bálthazar Díaz and Beatriz Tiscareño de Molina, Antonio Díaz de Lomas and Luisa Tiscareño de Molina. Could these two be brothers? IDKAfter goinf thrhough my records, Im convinced they are Bálthazar and Beatriz I mean how else is Tiscareño going to be compounded. ALl of the kids for Antonio and Luisa use just Díaz de Lomas never Tiscareño at all. Ive only found one child for Beatriz, which is José. I think this the José who married Jacinta de Ortega. I had a long time suspicion that Jacinta was of the Moreno de Ortega, but now Im not sure about her. Further study is needed. I think we need to get a hold of the marriage info for José and Jacinta. -Daniel

Daniel,
So it turns out we are related via another branch. My line comes from his son Bernardo Diaz Tiscareno and Manuela Flores de Robles. Regarding the two Diaz, It would be interesting to establish their relationship. Regarding Beatriz, I have not been able to find another child but Jose. An interesting note listed in Jose's christening is that he was very sick and in danger of dying, to the point that the priest gave him a special benediction "infanti pericolo mortis". It is quite amazing that our presence in this world was determined by the outcome of such fragile circumstances. Thank God he made it.

To Jaime Gonzalez,
When posting a new research topic you need to create it with a new heading in NR site, otherwise your question may
never be answere as it may get lost in the thread belonging to the subject heading (in this case Joseph Diaz Tiscareno and Jacinta Ortega).

Hi Maria,

Well I would suggest that you go to ancestry.com and see if they have an
option to download your genealogy from there to your computer. I think
they do. Make sure that you edit out any private information such as
your address/phone number and info on any living people. Once you have
it on your computer then you can upload it to your folder which is

You should also look at the great User's Guide that Arturo assembled:

Re. de la Torre family

I have been researching my family from Zacatecas. My great grandfather was Manuel de la Torre (1810) married Maria Altagracia Mejia(1815) on Jan. 1833, in Tepetongo.

Comments

Comment

Have you tried ordering the marriage film 0445236 (1816-1849)for 30 JAN 1833 and looking to see if their parents are listed there?
Also have you ordered the film 0445159 (1831-1842) for their children's baptisimals and looked to see if their grandparents are listed there? Sometimes one child's record doesn't show them while another one does. i.e. Maria Ysavel de la Torre (09 JUN 1841) or Jose Leandro de la Torre (28 FEB 1839).
In addition, if you know them, a sibling's marriage record of either Manuel or Maria and/or their sibling's children's baptisimal records will reveal the same information that you seek.
Good luck in your quest and adventure!

There were a number of people who were interested in attending, but for
various reasons were not able to. Many of those interested parties are from
the Los Angeles, CA area and have expressed an interest in having the next
conference there. We are more than willing to consider holding the 2011
Conference in the Los Angeles area, but to do so would require a resident of
that area to help us secure a location and help with the logistics. I want
to ask any of you living in the Los Angeles area if you would be willing to
undertake that responsibility?

Comment

I would like to suggest the Ontario Area as a possible site for the 2011 Conference. This area is served by LA/Ontario International Airport, with frequent flights offered by South West Airlines. There are plenty of hotels, too. I live in nearby Rancho Cucamonga; therefore I could be responsible for some portions of Event Planning required for a conference.

Please let me know if Nuestros Ranchos is interested in this possibility .

The African Presence in México: From Yanga to the Present is a traveling exhibition developed by curators Sagrario Cruz-Carretero and Cesáreo Moreno at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago. The exhibition examines the history, culture, and art of Afro-Mexicans, and begins in the colonial era and continues to the present day. Highlights of the exhibition include discussions of African slavery in Mexico and the hero/slave rebel Yanga; artifacts related to the traditions and popular culture of Afro-Mexicans; and paintings, masks, photography, and other works of art.

Presentations from the Nueva Galicia conference this weekend

I wanted to thank Helyn, Maria, Kitty and everyone else who went to great lengths to organize what turned out to be a great conference and a great reunion of wonderful people and adept genealogists.

I was not able to attend the conference so really appreciate you putting the information package together and in the file section. I enjoyed reading it. thank you for doing that.

I've also been watching the genealogy special hosted by Mr. Gates.  I was struck by an interveiw with Emmit Smith when he shared that when he sat on the steps of the slave quarters after learning his family history he felt that he gave his ancestors closure as well as learning where he came from and appreciated even more where he's gone. He said he felt their presence at that moment.  He shared with tears in his eyes and I just knew "He Got It!  He displayed with emotion what researching means to me.  It's not just names and dates but stories of real lives, places and people who it took to get me and you here today.  It impowers me but also hands me a responsibility to not waste what's been handed me.  Sometimes I had felt that all I got was survival skills  and then I learned why these things were important

I along with my wife Rosa want to thank all the organizers, presenters as well as all the primos and future primos :) at the conference. It was a very uplifting experience seeing all the enthusiasm. So many wonderful stories.... It still amazes me how close we really all are!

Thanks to all of the organizers of this conference and for the invitation to share some of my research regarding the Tlaxcalans. I enjoyed meeting so many people dedicated to learning about their ancestors and look forward to other opportunities to share and compare information.

I know that we will eventually link our ancestors and verify that we are primos.

Stanley,

Thanks so much for your presentation on the Tlaxcalan connection to New Mexico and Zacatecas.

It so happened that I've been reading up on the early settlers of New Mexico so your presentation really hit many musical chords.

It was great to meet you and your wife and to share a meal with our extended families..........it truly did feel like we were all family. The wonderment in everyone of our faces was amazing. Yolanda from the midwest, so great to meet you prima, somewhere we'll connect on the Jauregui lines.

Arturo,

I enjoyed your matrilineal naming practices presentation as posted. I was intrigued by the maternal surnames that had "o" in them, e.g. Haro o Saudedo.

In this light, can you comment on the following, particularly the mother of
the groom, understanding that the groom is illegitimate? I don't understand the "o digo" part.

"Francisco Barrios con Maria Cruz Reyes 3/30/1880" (Civil Marriage
Registration, Valparaiso, Zacatecas)

"Francisco, 22 anos, jornalero, hijo natural de Matias Barrios, difunto, y de
Guillerma Barrios o digo Sanchez"

Thanks,

Ed

Comment

Ed:

In my presentation, the use of the "o" as in "Maria Haro o Saucedo" is merely to designate that the person used both of those surnames. As in examples you have probably run across, some people switched back and forth between surnames throughout their lives.

In your example, I am not sure, but I would venture to guess that the priest simply made a transcription error and rather than make his book look sloppy with text crossed out simply corrected himself. I have seen similar entries and the name after the "o digo" or "me corrigo" is usually the correct name.

I also would like to give a big "Thanks" to the organizers and attendees of the Nueva Galicia Conference....I had a wonderful time getting to know everyone in person. Even though I have been doing this for the past 20 years, I'm always learning something new. I love helping others "crack the mysterious genealogy code", as I call it "cracking the code" to their ancestry.

I have the same information as Armando courtesy of the Octavio Paz book, Sor Juana, pg. 64-65. Father of Sor Juana: Pedro Manuel De Asbaje y Vargas, "a Basque...and nothing else known about him." The father is an enigma and a source of great speculation by Octavio Paz with respect to the character of Sor Juana, as I recall. The "criolla" mother: Dona Isabel Ramirez de Santillana. The origins of Isabel per Paz agree with Armando.

I don't recall any reference to Los Altos and Sor Juana. I took a quick look at the Paz book again and I see no references to that area but I could be wrong. There is nothing in the index.

Que documentos tienes en mano? Donde has buscado?

Has intentado buscar esas fuentes?

Hello Leticia and Alessandro:

I know that both of you know the Catarina/Zacoalco zone very well, and that Alessandro has APODACAS in his ancestry. I share the Sevilla/Apodaca/Ocampo/Morgutia last names. Paulino Sevilla was my grandfather but after him I don't have any information that ties me to the rest of the Sevillas from Zacioalco/Catarina. Any further help, information will be greatfully welcomed.

SAludos a todos/ Hi to all:
Yo tambien necesito ayuda.
paterno.
I ALSO NEED HELP. I AM UNABLE TO FIND ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ON MY GRANDFATHER

Leticia,
My grandfather Paulino had several sons one daughter; Gabriel, Angel, Jose Paz (my father) Antonia. Is the only information I have.
I can tell you that Paulino was married to Hexiquia Morgutia Valle.

Do you have Sevillas as your ancestors too?
