Hi group!!

I just viewed the baptismal record of my great grandpa, Francisco 
SANDOVAL, who was baptised in Totatiche.  I had been looking for his 
grandparents' names, and now I have them.  Francisco was the son of 
Urbano SANDOVAL, originally from Huejucar, and Urbano was the son of 
Jose Maria SANDOVAL and Juana BERUMES.  I looked up this couple, and 
discovered that Jose Maria's parents were Leon SANDOVAL and Maria 
Guadalupe VAZQUEZ.  I'm still gethering information based on my 
findings, and I know some people from the group come from the 
Sandoval line.  I do need to order the films for HUEJUCAR, but now 
both my parents have ancestors who lived in the same HUEJUCAR area-- 
they sure didn't know that until I started working on my family 
tree!!  Am I my own cousin?  ;)

Has anyone come across the CORDOVA family of Huejucar?  My gt gt 
grandma, Manuela CORDOVA, was born in Huejucar, and her parents were 
Pablo CORDOVA and Romana ELIAS.  I just wondered if anyone had come 
across them.  Also, I'm working on my BANUELOS family from Huejucar-- 
my gt gt grandpa Claro BANUELOS I think is the son of Jesus BANUELOS 
and Josefa DEL REAL.

Does everyone download the files to view them so we are coordinating
our searches?

Well so far the way i looks is that as new people come into the group everyone
looks over their genealogy to see if the new person might be researching
a specific area they are researching. If so then the information is looked
over to see if any of the individuals are recognized.



Well at least that is what I'm doing. it is difficult but I try to keep an
idea of what areas people are researching and provide maps of those areas
. . .links to my website which has a lot of maps is found in the "links"
area.

and Micaela Del Castillo died 1905 in childbirth with her 2nd child in Tamaulipas.

We are primarily focused on Jalisco, Zacatecas and Aguascalientes. . .but
interested in info on any small or large migration patterns from these areas
to Tamaulipas.

yes this would be definitely on topic if some reading materials can be given
so those that are interested (at least me) could investigate further when
time permits.

I had intended on taking that conversation with Alicia about the

wonderful. . .I get nervous with this stuff because I can get so flustered
with it so quickly. . .I have a confession. When I was encouraging you to
be patient I was saying that only to force myself to be patient. I was concerned
that I would so quickly throw my hands up and say "heck if I know." thankfully
it never reached that point. And if I hadn't made that confession I could
have remained on that high plateau you had me on. . .nope not me I'm down
in the trenches with everybody else. Just a loco thats wingin it.



by the way you're from San Jo right? Have you ever heard of that Ramirez
lady that lives in San Jose that wrote that Genealogy book? I just got it
on interlibrary loan because it talks about Miranda and Lugo (names on my
dads maternal side of the family). Unfortuneately for me they all seem to
have come from Sinaloa instead. but there is some very good info on the early
California Ranchos in the book. If you are interested I have the book in
my car and I'll get you the exact title later. It is in some of the SJ libraries
since that is where she is from. Heck you might even know her.



well its 3 am and past my bedtime. I just got home about 1: 45 and like to
get to bed around 2:30 so I can get up early and start all over again.

your right..........I found two instances so far where my gr. grandmother was the padrina to 2 of her grandchildren......I didn't know they could do that?!?!?.hahaha.......Now a days with the way things are and grandparents are raising their grandchildren....they might as well be the godparents.

yes the spirit of cooperation. . .in time we are going to develope into a
fine tuned researching machine for others to pattern themselves. Certainly
the Rootsweb groups leave a lot to be desired in this respect.

I am currently viewing film #0628877. This is the first film for 
Ixtlahuacan del Rio, Jalisco and it covers baptisms for the years 
1801-1818. I should mention that the books on this film are for a 
parroquia that was an offshoot of the Parroquia de San Felipe, 
Cuquio, Jalisco.  The parroquia was called "Hayuda de la Parroquia de 
San Miguel de Quelitan feligresia de Cuquio".  I think the parroquia 
de Ixtlahuacan del Rio was founded later.  Anyway, I would be happy 
to do lookups for others as well.

thats great. You just never know how the padrinos are going to be related.
They could be the abuelos, siblings, tios, primos, or just exceptionally
close friends of the family. The older records before 1800 seem to stop giving
the abuelos but you still have the padrinos listed. so in the older records
they take on a more important role since there is now less information in
each record to work with. I guess the point I'm making is that learning to
dig, dig, dig every little bit of information from each record, leaving no
rock unturned now will help you much later when you are working with less
info in the records.



Others I'm sure can add much to what info I try to dig out of a post 1800
baptismal record. . .here's my list of what I try to find.



1) of course the written details of the child.

2) the names of the parents

3) the names of the grandparents

4) the names of the padrinos

5) I do a person search on each name given in the record being careful to
do a search with the exact spelling off with different combinations and then
with the exact spelling on with different combinations.

6) I do a parent search using every possible combination of spellings of
names that I can think of for each couple in the record

7) If I find other children of the couples listed I'll look at those records
and do all the above searches with those records.

8) If I find any marriage records for any of the people in the record I'll
look at the record and do all the above searches with everyone listed in
those records in addition to:

9) I'll see if anyone in the marriage record is listed as being from somewhere
else. If they are I'll do a "Batch" search for that surname in that location
and see if I get some good preliminary info that might provoke me to order
films from that area.

10) I'll pay special attention to see if the marriage record mentions if
a "Dispensa" was needed. Even if it wasn't mentioned there will many times
be "Informacion Matrimonial" available depending on the time period. I don't
know what its like in other locations but during certain time periods it
appears as if the Informacion Matrimonial was only recorded for certain couples
and in other time periods it appears like every couple has something written

thats a good idea, taking a copy of the indexes  (sp?)  anyways I have done what you have said and yes have found other people......infact the padrina to my padrina........was one of my moms best friends and she didn't even know it!!!......my padrina/madrina....is my moms sister but she is 10 years younger than my mom.

Wow you are really digging in and doing your own research. . .go girl! I
wish I had relatives in totatiche for you to help me find. . .that would
mean we might be relatives too. You never know but later we might find some
there too.



uh, ummm, just wondering but have you done a page by page study of each film
from beginning to end? If not some of my greatest finds have been when I'm
not searching for anyone in particular but just trying to find any relatives
I might come across.



just a suggestion but I'd recommend if you haven't already done this,  go
back and slowly scan each record paying careful attention to the wives of
each of the abuelos. Also write down any padrinos that look like they might
be related. Many times the padrinos are related. And if you are lucky the
padrinos are a married couple and are closely related. Then you can do a
parent search for them and see who else you can find maybe on another film.




If you've decided to really let the films go back then get the most that
you can get out of each one taking special note of people with the same surnames
you are researching. If you are fortunate enough to have indexes included
in the films you might make copies of these indexes (or at least for the
surnames letters you are researching) so if later you discover other relatives
that you didn't recognize at this time you'll at least know what records
are on the film for that surname.

ps: oh and if you haven't already done this do yourself a big favor when
making copies. On the copy write down at the very least the film number.



On mine I write down the film number and other info something like this:



0443671v3p129/1415   (23Oct1730)  



this is the film number, volume within the film, page number if available,
record number if available and then the date the record is given

I just checked Dr. Platt's Census reference pages and it doesn't list
Totatiche in the 168809 film. I also have the 168809 film and even
though I haven't done a slooow roll-thru it yet I haven't seen Totatiche
in it. I kind of did a semi-fast pass through it and I'll have to have
another look at it later.

These are the places that Dr. Platt's reference has for Totatiche.

Jose it was me, Joseph who was asking Angie if Jerez was in her 1820 Census
film. If it was and if it wasn't a very large section I was hoping she would
check to see if any Puente or Muro's were on the film. I don't know of any
Puentes or Muro family members that were from there just thought if she spotted
any I'd be interested in who they might be.
