TEST SITE - DO NOT USE - Development only

Jonathan, my "cemetary" experience in El Durazno was that someone in 
each town has a key to the local cemetary, I did not find any that 
were open, they were locked.  At the older cemetary in Los Haros, 
district of Jerez we were lucky that someone was working there and 
agreed to let us in, we had to leave when they did.  Cemetaries were 
not taken care of but the marble monuments were huge and paid for by 
relatives from the states who sent money I was told. When we were in 
Guadalajara the same was true for the really old cemetaries, someone 
had to admit us.
I had no luck finding records in Jerez Zacatecas, El Limon and 
Tamazula Jalisco.  Clerks were overworked and without copy machines or 
time to give us. I had better luck with the records at the FHC.
The trip was still very much worth the time and money, wonderful 
people just researching records is not a priorty for them.  I asked to 
check a marriage ledger from 1920 and was told the public is not 
allowed to touch the books.
Good luck in your search, I'm sure the locals will fill you in when 
you get there as how to go about getting co-operation each place you 
go.

Hello all,

Have any of you ever done research in the actual Parish in Mexico?

I am asking, because in about 3 weeks, I will be going to Mexico. And
if possible I will try find some information at the parish and
cemetary level.

So could anyone give me some pointers, on what to expect? Or the best
way to approach the subject?

had two deaths in the family in January, one to Baja Calif and the other one

Our vacation starts April 6th in Rocklin, CA,  then we spend about 5-
7 days in Ogden, UT where we will meet with Rosalinda and visit the
FHL in SLC again.  The 14th of April we take off  by way of Hiway 80
and head back east to Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia.  Before
we arrive back East, we plan
on visiting friends in Chicago, Cousin
in Michigan, and a cyber cousin in Pittsburg.  Those cities are
followed by an Uncle in Richmond, VA, hopefully Joseph in NC, then
friends in GA where we will stay for about 3 days.   After Georgia,
we head up to Paducah, KY for the world's biggest Quilt Show. 
(Hiway 20 and Hiway 40.)  From KY, we hope to make it to a Reyes
Family Reunion in the Houston, TX area.  (Hiway 55 and Hiway 10)
That should be the last week-end of April.  We plan on using  Hiway
10 and Hiway 25 from Houston, thru Albuquerque, NM and then finally
home sometime the first week of May.  We will be puting a few miles
on our RV. 
If we are going to be in your neighborhood, please contact us

Hi group! 

Here is an update on the upcoming Southern California Ranchos 
Meeting.  A kind member of the Ranchos group, Olivia Jaurequi-Reyes, 
has offered the use of her home as a meeting place.  The advantage of 
this is that we can have a calm, comfortable atmosphere to share our 
genealogies and ideas.  I'd like to thank Olivia for her generosity.  
The location was originally set for the Covina area, but Olivia's home 
is in Rowland Heights, not too far away from the 60 freeway, and just 
west of the 57 interchange.

We are planning a menu of carne asada, rice, beans, sodas, water, 
coffee, and pan dulce, and expect the cost to be in the range of $10 
per person.  I ask that you please let me know whether you definitely 
plan to attend, and inform me no later than FEBRUARY 15, so we can 
order the food and purchase any necessary items.  PLEASE TELL ME HOW 
MANY PEOPLE ARE COMING.  This is crucial for planning purposes, and I 
will also respond with Olivia's address and phone number, which I do 
not want to post on the public forum.  Email me at

El Norte de Jalisco es una región de gran complejidad sociocultural debida
la convergencia de diversos procesos históricos, sociales, económicos y
culturales.

La evolución histórica de esta zona del Estado y su actual estructura se
deben a las particularidades de su territorio y ambiente. Estos aspectos
fueron determinantes para las formas de cultura establecidas aquí desde la
antigüedad y hasta nuestros días, por lo que desde épocas tempranas sus
pobladores tuvieron rasgos culturales característicos.

Los movimientos sociales en esta tierra también han tenido manifestaciones
propias: el proceso de conquista de este territorio tuvo que adoptar

After watching a number of our American politicians

I work with juvenile boys. And its sad, I had one boy and many others but
this one in particular. Was brought here as a baby, his mom never got around
to getting his papers. So when he graduated our program he earned his
diploma and a scholarship to an art institution.

Only when we tried to get him legal we ran into road block after road block.
Basically there was no way of getting them unless he went back to mexico and
started from there. Yet the kid had NO ties to mexico at all nor would he
know anyone there or his way around. It was a SAD situtation. We helped him
all we could but finally he just went to work with his dad working
illegally. It was so sad cuz the kids was a GREAT artist.

I updated my Olague-Tinajero tree (Tepetongo, Jerez, Salitrillo, 
Marecito, Salitral, Estancia).  Where have you put it?  I can't find 
the link to it on Ranchos.  It is a link to the Ahnanfatel list of this 
tree on WorldConnect that you uploaded for me.  It now has six 
generations starting with my grandfather Francisco Olague who was born 
in Salitrillo in 1872.

I have added another generation on four lines and filled in some 
missing dates and places in others.  Surnames in this tree include 
Olague, Tinajero, Salasar, Flores, Felis, Suriano, Acevedo, Miranda, 
Campos, Munos, Lucio, Quijas, Mata, Ramires, Escovedo, Banegas, de 
Aro.  The Surianos and Quijas were mulatos.  The Olagues and Tinajeros 
were Espanol.  There are very few Yndio or Mestiso.

It is a 65-page word document (729KB) in modified Register format, containing 541 persons surnamed delaCruz, Ramírez, de Lara, Córdova, Puentes, Rodríguez, Herrera, Váladez, Mares, Quíroz, and others, with copious footnotes. Ninety percent are from San José de Gracia and Rincón de Romos, Aguascalientes, México.

What is the procedure? Shall I e-mail it to you?
