Beatriz Vasquez Retamosa

I am looking for the father of Beatriz Vasquez Retamosa, who married
Juan Rodriguez de Chavarria on 6 March 1618 in Aguascalientes,
through a dispensa I found out Beatriz was daughter of Catalina

I hope some of this helps, maybe you'll luck out with a dispensa for
cosanguinidad. Did you find their record of Información Matrimonial? Maybe
the father is listed there, as the one presenting her or the father is
mentioned, or one of his siblings is a witness (testigo), if you cannot find
the father at least you'll be able to continue the line back further through
the sibling. How about testamentos (wills), have you looked at those yet?
You might also like to look at mortgaging and or conveying of water rights
and land. These normally tell from whom individuals aquired the land or
water that they are selling or mortgaging. Well, good luck

You have probably looked at the following records? If not I would take a
look to see if they list Abuelos Paternos/Maternos; it's doubtful for that
time period.

Beatriz? Tal vez el padre es la

I have the Padilla line going further back another five hundred years but there are multiple marriages, and sometimes there is disagreement as to which of the wives is the biological mother. I also found a couple of instances where it seems that a generation is skipped because the father dies at a young age and therefore he is then adopted by his grandfather. When the grandson inherits property from his grandfather which leads people to incorrectly assume that he is his biological father. In one case this May have happened with a great grandfather, passing over his son and grandson, giving the inheritance to his great grandson.

The Padilla surname is not from a strictly paternal ancestry.

The line of the men in this family started with Dávila or De Ávila.

1)- Mateo(s) Dávila b. In early 1200’s (based on him receiving property in 1266), ambassador of King Alfonso X “el Sabio”. Mateos was also known as a famous conquistador of Jerez de la Frontera.

2)- Bartolome Martinez Dávila (fought in battle of “1285” defending Jerez de la Frontera) (second owner of “las casas en la Colación de San Salvador de Jerez de La Frontera” that his father received in 1266.).
Bartolome Martinez Dávila married Juana Bernalte Dávila

3)- Juan Bernalte Dávila I was famous for taking the castle of Tempui in 1300, and he was the third owner of the “las casas en la Colación de San Salvador de Jerez de La Frontera”. Juan Bernalte Dávila married Elvira Gutierrez Gatica

Thanks Jesus for catching that. You are right that she is the daughter of the Mariana that I had mistakenly written there. I have it correct in my records. And yes I do have more information on that family that I will be presenting in my book. I am leaving a few ancestral lines for my book.

It's my pleasure Rick.
One more question, I have read in several genealogies in Internet that Francisca Alcocer was the daughter of Hernando de Bañuelos and Isabel de Alcocer and that it is Isabel de Alcocer the daughter of Diego de Alcocer and Blanca Núñez, what do you think? Because you skipped Hernando and Isabel in your post and put Francisca as the daughter of Diego and Blanca. What would be the correct thing?

While re-reading my post, I saw that I had written Diego Temino de Velasco. While this is the name most nuestrosranchos genealogists refer by, in my records I have him as Diego Velasco de Temino with a note that he is also named in records as Diego Velasco de Treviño and Diego Temino de Velasco. His mother’s surname is Velasco and that is the one that he uses. I have posted on other threads how sometimes surname changes come about when a person moves from one area to another.

Dear Erik,
I have had A couple tweaks that I wanted to share with you but you haven’t responded to my emails.

One of the tweaks has to do with a family member of the Ruiz De Esparza family. You named Miguel Esparza in the family tree without the Ruiz surname. Miguel Ruiz De Esparza was related to Lope Ruiz de Esparzas ancestors. They come from the same Ruiz De Esparza family. I have not been able to identify the exact relationship, but Lope Ruiz de Esparza’s great great grandfather was a close cousin of Miguel Ruiz De Esparza.

The second tweak has to do with quote of yours of Mariano Gonzalez Leal. Mariano names an ancestor of ours from our Padilla family as having a surname slightly different than one that I have found in primary sources. I have not publicly identified this difference yet, but I explain the different surname in my book. This surname is not a common surname in Spain. I am still researching the history of this surname.

Regarding Rodrigo/Antonio de Mendoza, you are correct about being named also as Rodrigo. Hi Rick,

I forgot to mention this. There is something that could leads us to figure out which line of the Mendoza we belong to. In the coat of arms of the Reynoso Mendoza the quartier representing the Mendoza line has 5 panelas instead of the arrangement of the COA that we commonly know:

https://www.uam.es/personal_pdi/ciencias/depaz/mendoza/mescudos.htm

Here is the coat of arms in the Reinoso Mendoza palace:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/03/Palacio_Reinoso_Men…

According to the study, the panelas could belong to the Almazán line of the Mendozas.

What do you think?

Comment

Dear Erik,

The Reynoso Mendoza have at least two lines of descent of Mendoza. It may be three as I see a strong possibility that one line of descent comes from a marriage of Mendoza cousins. If you look at the Escobar de Campos ancestral line that I posted you will see that for “4) Rui Fernandez De Escobar, Señor de Escobar y Campos + hija de uno De los señores de Villagarcia” I did not list the name of the wife. I only wrote that she was “hija de los señores de Villagarcia”. The señores de Villagarcia during this time period are surnamed Mendoza and one of them has a wife that descends from a different branch of the Mendozas.

Here is the Escobar Line that shows that shows descent from the señores de Villagarcia, presumably the Mendozas:

1) Fernan Escobar, Señor De Escobar (1st to use the surname Escobar) + Sancha De Castañeda. Both came from a long line of nobility. Fernan had many family noble surnames to choose from but took as his surname the name of his new title.
2) Rui

Dear Eric,
There are a few reasons for the confusion of the ancestry of Rodrigo Rodriguez De Escobar. Before I get into the reasons, let me add that during his time period some people named Rodrigo were also called Rui, and their sons sometimes used both surnames Ruiz and Rodriguez. Our Rui/Rodrigo Rodríguez de Escobar, Señor de Campos, was also known as Rodrigo Alvarez De Escobar because his father was named Alvar.

The first reason for the confusion:
The ancestry of Alvar Rodriguez De Escobar, Señor de Escobar de Campos is being confused with the ancestry of his cousin also named Alvar Rodriguez De Escobar that lived in Trujillo. They both had a son named Rodrigo Alvarez De Escobar aka Rui Rodríguez de Escobar.

The second reason is one that Salazar y Castro says that his mothers name is María mtz. Does the record really have mtz or is it Btz? I sometimes have a relatively easy time reading documents that I am researching. At other times I have a hard time trying to read the

Dear Erik,

There are two Conde Pedro Alvarez Osorios. Conde Pedro Alvarez Osorio Señor de Villalobos and his great grandfather Conde Pedro Alvarez Osorio Señor de Valderas that are mixed up and combined in secondary sources. Mixing up these two Conde Pedro Alvarez Osorios led to the confusion over the timeline. The second Conde Pedro Alvarez De Osorio even had a son that was also named Pedro Alvarez Osorio. This new information fills in the gap in the timeline that you suspected. This new information also leads to more connections to other ancestors of Los Altos De Jalisco (Los Altos De Villanueva, Nueva Galicia). I am still processing all his new information.

Dear Erik,

I descend from Francisco Reynoso y Rico five times through three of my grandparents. In my records I had only gone as far back as his parents, so you can see why I am eagerly awaiting your book. In my own research I did find some information connecting the Reynoso’s to the Jewish conversó Herrera family that also comes to Nueva Galicia.

I have done much of Cristina’s family tree for many generations except for her paternal grandmother Genevieve (Genoveva) Loriot who was born in Aug or Sep 1896-1898 in France. Thank you so much, I think there are some points about conversos that may also interest you in the book. The merchant Francisco de Reynoso Medina (who belonged to the line of Boadilla de Rioseco and had Villacorta as first last name) requested for his son Fernando de Reynoso Angulo the "hábito" of an order of knighthood however it never proceeded and he was made Alferez of Mexico City instead. I wondered why but a finding of the researcher Jorge Barba Gómez had the answer (Tribunal del Santo Oficio Lisboa, Proc. 7722 09.2.1629): it turns out that the sister of Francisco de Reynoso Medina, Beatriz de Reynoso who was born in 1569 in Viseu, Portugal was condemned as "cristiana nueva acusada de judaísmo" and was sent to jail with her husband Diogo Nunes Neto (2th September, 1626). Following her lineage it turns out that her mother, Luisa Clara de Medina who was born in Viseu may have been jewish.

Dear Members,

I come to a topic I have proposed that has not gotten much traction: indexing the Protocolos of Guadalajara.  I wanted to give you an example of why I think this would be very worthwhile.  I found the will/testamento of Francisco Rodríguez Ponce from 1660.  I know it has been mentioned before, but from my search of our Forum topics, it does not appear that anyone had seen the actual images or an actual full transcription.  It is a veritable treasure trove for us genealogists!  Below I will include both a partial transcription, and an outline some of the relationships that it details.  It seem to me that he really cared about familial relationships, because he went into a level of detail that I have not seen in other wills, as to  how people are related that are not even in his direct line.  He also often mentioned if the people he was referring to were still living.  Finally, he was extremely  rich.  He received 20,000 pesos in dowry from his mother in law Maria Verdugo

Dear Members,

As I mentioned before, I find it fascinating how much Francisco Rodríguez Ponce focused on how everyone was related, even when as far as we can tell they were not HIS relatives.

He names his father, Francisco Rodriguez Ponce (?-1643) and his mother Francisca de Rentería y Velasco (?-1661), as well as his paternal grandfather, Alonso Rodríguez Ponce (?-?).  He also names his wife, Juana de Avalos y Bocanegra, and his in-laws, Diego de Bocanegra y Cervantes (?-), and the powerful and well-known María Verdugo y Avalos (?-before 1660).  He finally mentions his six children, whom he names specifically, María Verdugo y Ponce, Juana de Avalos, Diego de Bocanegra, Joseph Rodríguez Ponce y Bocanegra, Francisca Rodríguez Ponce y Bocanegra, and Angela de Velasco. They are obviously named for several grandparents or great-grandparents of the same name.

He also names his uncle Miguel de Rentería Muxica, and his two sisters Catalina de Rentería y Ponce (married to Pedro de Vidarte Pardo)

I am not sure if I meant the one held at the Bancroft Special Collections at UCB or the one that was posted on another thread here, and available on PARES:

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/24573

I can check back through my poor quality photos of the Bancroft version and see if that's where I saw it. I have a vague memory that it was in a section where Diego was listing his relatives toward the end of the meritos. However, this only solves the problem in part, given the possibility Diego could have been mistaken. But at any rate, it is a relatively good bet that they were his parents.

Hope this helps for now, but will post again when I find more.

Richard,

Thank you so much for posting. This is a great lead as it helps confirm some of my prior research, but I hope you can still help clarify the mystery around the parents of Diego de Rentería. Would you please clarify where you found the parents of Diego Rentería Mujica, as I have not been able to find them. Let me explain. I have only been able to access the link you included (I have not been able to see the Bancroft Collection): http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/24573

Reading the post I followed the Pares link:

Saludos Luis,

Thank you so much for sharing all of these other leads!

First, I went back to my images from the Bancroft microfilm, which seems to have much of the same things from the meritos on PARES but perhaps a bit extra. For example, it has a section where Diego Flores de la Torre presents "Los Quatro Grados de Parientes de este Linaje". I am not sure if I am permitted to post my images according to the agreement I signed many years ago with Berkeley special collections in order to take these images, but if you email me at richrocks92@gmail.com I will happily provide you with the three images that have the list of parientes.

The lists are very sparse and some inference is required to place descendants with their respective ancestors. Under tercer grado he lists simply "hijos de Sancho de Renteria", which is not incredibly helpful since it does not give their names. In the next generation - quarto grado - he lists "los hijos de la senora D. Catalina muger que fue de D. Pedro de

Richard,

I wanted to respond today to let you know that I have read your response. Thank you too for your notes! I will be working on a more meaningful response to your questions this weekend, but for now I wanted to post a few comments:

1) Although I acknowledge some of this is inference, I also agree with you in that it is likely that the "D. Nicolas Sarmiento" that you say is mentioned in the "Los Quatro Grados de Parientes de este Linaje" of the "Meritos of Diego Flores" is indeed the same Nicolas baptized in Guadalajara in 1620 (son of Diego de Renteria and Isabel Sarmiento). This is likely given that his Mother "Isabel Sarmiento" bears his surname. Agreed this is not conclusive at this point, but man, that's pretty darn close! If I recall correctly, there is another Nicolás which would be of the same 4th Generation, but I don't believe he is associated with the Sarmientos. I will check my notes.

2) Regarding your question about Inquisition Links, I don't know if you were

Hello Sus and Forum Members,

I am also investigating this family line and I wanted to ask you and others in this Forum if you have any luck finding additional information on Sancho de Rentería Married to Ángela de Velasco. I am trying to find evidence that Diego de Rentería y Mújica (married to Isabel Sarmiento), is the son of Sancho de Rentería and Ángela de Velasco. So far, I have found several references in family trees and publications on the internet where they show that this is the case, but none offer a source. If anyone in this group can share a source that shows that Diego de Rentería y Mújica (married to Isabel Sarmiento), is the son of Sancho de Rentería and Ángela de Velasco, I would really appreciate it. If you don't have the source but could point me in the right direction, that would be helpful as well.

Jorge,

I'm sorry, I haven't made much progress on documentary evidence of Diego's parents. I hit a brick wall on this several months ago and was hoping this group could help. I am still hopeful someone in this group could help with some clues. For now, I'm still looking and if you are also looking, perhaps we can post weekly or monthly updates regularly, whether we have found anything or not. Would you like to share where you have searched so far or if you have any leads? I'd be happy to share my thoughts as well.

Respectful shout out to this group to see if anyone has any documentary evidence that the parents of Diego de Renteria Mujica were Angela de Velasco and Sancho de Rentería. Thank you all.

I have four people named Sancho De Rentería that lived in the 1500’s and early 1600’s in Nueva Galicia.

The Sancho Rentería that is the son of Juan Renteria and Juana Pereira is not my ancestor.

The other three “Sancho De Rentería” listed here are my ancestors.

1). Sancho de Rentería is the son, or son=in -law, of : Hernando Mujica, “contador de Guadalajara” and “Francisca Porres Baranda y Temiño de la Mota. “ I do not have a wife for this Sancho. Sancho’s son:

2).Sancho de Rentería Mujica (Moxica, Mohica) and Angela Velasco (De la Torre). I Repeat the fact that this Sancho has grandparents named Hernando Mujica, “contador de Guadalajara” and “Francisca Porres Baranda y Temiño de la Mota. [It is unknown to me whether they are his paternal or maternal grandparents.]. Sancho and Angela’s son:

Hello,

According to several trees online Capitan Sancho de Renteria cc Agueda del Rio de la Loza is the son of Sancho de Renteria cc Angela Velasco.

The problem is that I can't find any source to make this connection. Does anyone know how to link these two Sanchos?

I have now some informacion about Sancho de Renteria father (cc Angela Velasco), but first I need to make the connection with the son.

I've never seen a direct source for this either, but Sancho and Agueda had a daughter named Angela de Velasco cc Juan del Campo de la Torre. Their daughter (my ancestor) Juana de la Torre cc Miguel de Olague uses most of the surnames from the female sides of her family - Gamboa, del Rio, Mojica, and Velasco.

I don't have the link to Agueda del Rio's will, but if you haven't seen it she names her daughter there

So yeah, with the Chantre document in the Bancroft, the Agueda will and the inquisition process against Diego it's confirmed that:
Angela de Velasco and Diego Flores de la Torre are the parents of Angela Velasco who married Sancho de Renteria (son of the Sancho who was a witness in Diego's process) and they in turn are parents of the third Sancho who married Agueda del Rio. (Then there's a fourth Sancho de Renteria and maybe also a fifth, but I personally haven't studied them yet.)

Hi Sus and Manny,

I can't be of much help, but I have also been looking into this family. I have seen a few different sources that might offer some clues. First, I think that there were at least 3 Sancho Renterias living in Nueva Galicia in the 16th century. There is one who is the son of Juan de Renteria, alcalde mayor of Zacatecas cc. Elvira de Pereira y Rivera, who died as a child in 1565. Second there is Sancho de Renteria the alcalde mayor of Mexticacan who was born around 1534. Third, is the Sancho de Rentería Mujica who was teniente de alcalde in Juchipila cc. Angela de Velasco Flores de la Torre and son of the previous Sancho.

The three separate Sancho's are clarified most by information in the book La Inquisición en la Nueva Galicia, specifically in two separate trials. If you search Renteria you will find the relevant sections: https://archive.org/stream/lainquisicionenl00vill/lainquisicionenl00vil…

In the trial for Diego Flores de la Torre a witness is Sancho de

    Interesting Baptism Name

This is a new one for me. Has anyone ever seen where a name that is traditionally a last name is actually made to be part of a 1st name? I found the baptism record for my 5th great grandfather. On most records he is listed as Juan Hernandez or Juan Antonio Hernandez. His parents were Cristobal Hernandez and Maria de la Encarnacion Vallin (or Ballin). On his baptism record his first name is listed as "Juan Jose Antonio Bautista". Bautista is not his last name. So his whle name at baptism would be Juan Jose Antonio Bautista Hernandez Vallin.

Attached is the document. Just wondered if anyone had thoughts on this? Maybe his name was inspired by someone somewhat notible/of important historic reference at the time?

Who is this Francisca de la Ascencion?

If I am reading it right, in Nochistlan, on 25 Feb 1686, it says Domingo Mejia is the padrino and the madrina is Francisca de la Ascencion su prima. I believe this Domingo Mejia is most likely the one who is the son of Lorenzo Mejia and Ines de Estrada. If it is, then does anyone know who this Francisca de la Ascencion is?

Origin of the Araiza y Medina family (one step closer)

    Dear Members,

I received an email today from Michael Araiza, that spurred me to revisit the Araiza-Medina line.  He sent me the link to a marriage between Hernando de Arayze (yes, with an “e”) and María de Gusman in 1592, inquiring if it might fit the timeline for the marriage of Fernando de Araiza and María de Guzmán, parents of Juan de Araiza y Medina (d. 1665).  My answer is long, but the short answer, is yes, I do indeed think if fits the timeline.

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939D-DXXC?i=304&wc=3P8Q-6TL%3A122652201%2C132529401%3Fcc%3D1615259&cc=1615259

The main problem with this document is that it took place in Mexico City, and we had not previously had any link of the Araizas to Mexico City.  So, I started doing some research.  PARES yielded nothing, sadly.  However, in familysearch and in my own document repository I found a couple things that may help make the connection.

I found the marriage of a Josephe de Arayça to Juana Martínez in 1623, and it turns out, he

    Mr. Sales,

I agree with you that this marriage record fits the time line of the Araiza Y Medina Line.  Great information from it!!

The marriage does indicate that Hernando Arayze and Maria Guzman are "Vecinos" of the city . Juan De Araiza's Testament says they were Vecinos of Zacatecas .(probably later)

In the past, we did talk about the 1739 ordination investigation of Gabriel Araiza in comparison to the 1664 Testament of Juan De Araiza Y Medina. The will stating they are "Vecinos" of Zacatecas, and the Investigation stating that Juan De Araiza Y Medina was born in  "Un Lugar en La Vizcay en los Reinos de Castilla".

Could the ordination investigation be wrong? Could it be possible that Juan de Araiza already have been born at the time of the marriage in 1592?

Also noted in the marriage is a 'Joan De Medina"  , I wonder what relation this person had to Hernando and could this person be the contributor to the Araiza Y Medina surname?

    Great Stuff!!!

You can find more info about them here, including a link to a dispensation verifying that Joseph Juarez was the same who married Nicolasa Carrillo: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ju%C3%A1rez-56

It’s possible that Nicolasa Carrillo was also from Nochistlan, there were various branches of the Carrillo de Sandi living in that area. But I see no record of Joseph and Nicolasa marrying there. There were various branches of the Carrillo de Sandi in Teocaltiche and a couple in Aguascalientes, so check those communities, too. If they married in Teocaltiche, then you’ll be out of luck, since the marriage books are missing for the years they would’ve married.

    Hello primos!

I had not researched any lines in quite some time but in recent days I did some research about the Plancartes-Blsncartes-Maciel and I think I just got it right. It's a little bit confusing because several names are repeated in different generations, for instance: Isabel del Castillo, Álvaro Maciel, Juan Asencio de León, Gerónima de Liébana...

In this case I'll go from the first documented Plancarte through to his descendant Juan Maciel Yáñez Plancarte who married Ana García de Liébana ca 1595.

Guillermo Plancarte arrived to New Spain in 1526 and there are some records about him in Valladolid around 1541 and also in Colima.

He married Ana Hernández or Dominguez around 1536 and there are at least three documented children:

    Guadalupe b apr-1-1538 CdMx

    Isabel b may-3-1543 CdMx

    Pedro b1555 Valladolid

Guadalupe married ca 1562 Álvaro Maciel Yáñez García died before jan-24-1600 when his son Juan Maciel Yáñez Plancarte sells some lands that 83 years later would bring a lawsuit.

I believe that Juan Carlos Munguia and Maria Antonia Theresa Coria-Peralta Villaseñor were also related through their Villaseñor lines so there may be a record of dispensation for their marriage. The record may be in Michoacan or Jalisco.

Hello, Fellow Genealogists. I've been away for a few weeks and just now saw the comments re Murguia. I dedicated a lot of time on this line and having exhausted my resources I put it aside. Then about four years ago I revisited my research and added a few ideas. These Murguia are a challenge, but hopefully with more of us on the trail we can break through.

The following is a brief paper I had prepared for my file. It has the gist of my Murguia research as I tried to connect them to the Ontiveros. I just did a cut-and-paste:

I am trying to identify my Murguia ancestors, whom I have traced from Lagos back to Tangantzicuaro and Guadalajara. I think my earliest Murguia were involved with the Ontivero family. Here is what I have found on them to date:

    1. My ancestor Joseph Murguia married Maria Nicolasa de Anda Altamirano in 15 Sep 1722. His father Nicolas de Murguia, Jr., b. ca.1665, (son of Nicolas de Murguia, Sr., b. ca.1640, and Ana de Liebana, b. 16 Jul 1640 Chilchota)

Some of the Murguia family members that I researched had the surname Murguia- Maciel, The Maciel surname is connected to the Blancarte (Plancarte) surname.

    Dear Mary Lou,

I had recently done research on this family in response to this thread, but I made a mistake in not looking at my previous records from years ago. When you posted your information on the Murguia family I recognized a couple of my ancestors. Those ancestors also used the surname Maciel Plancarte instead of just Blancarte. I went to my previous research and found work that I had done many years ago for a cousin, whose father has some ancestors that used the surname Munguia. It turns out that I had already researched Carlos Munguia and Ma. Anita. Theresa Coria a long time ago. Back then I had focused on some of their descendants. When I had done this research I had only looked for the surname " Munguia" as I had not known that some branches also used "Murguia."

    Marcelina,

In the marriage record of Carlos Munguia and Thereza de Coria the witnesses are Bonifacio Ochoa and Juana Manuela Diaz. The godparents are Antonio Villaseñor and Ana Munguia.

I believe that the groom and bride are related to their witnesses and godparents. Bonifacio Ochoa's son's mother in law is Maria Coria Villaseñor. She is the daughter of Antonio Coria- Peralta Rincon and Antonia Villaseñor. Bonifacio's second wife is Maria Gertrudis Coria Peralta y Villaseñor, daughter of Antonio Coria- Peralta Rincon and Antonia Villaseñor.

I believe that Matias Coria and Maria Antonia Tereza Coria may be brother and sister. They married within three months of each other and their marriage records are written on the same page. Carlos Munguia and Tereza Coria were married on the 15th of November. Mathias Coria and Maria Theresa de Jesus Galindo married the 24th of August of the same year. Mathias Coria is the son of Antonio Coria- Peralta Rincon and Antonia Villaseñor.

I don’t think Pedro Montellano, who was married to Ana Maria de los Santos Castorena, and Pedro Montejano Argote, who married Guadalupe Cirila Camarillo, are the same person. For one thing, though similar, the surnames are different and have different origins.

For them to be the same person, he’d have to have been married first to Ana Maria de los Santos, before 1786, when their daughter Gertrudis was born; according to his marriage information, Pedro Montejano Argote was born around 1780 on Rancho del Maguey and had been living on Rancho de la Jaula, both in the jurisdiction of Pinos. He was 17 and had never been married, nor had he lived anywhere else. So he couldn’t have been the same person who was married to Ana Maria de los Santos. Also, according to their marriage records, Pedro Montellano’s children were mestizos, and their mother, Ana Maria de los Santos, was spanish (white), so Pedro was mixed race, for his children to be mestizos. Pedro Montejano Argote was spanish.

When did your Pedro Jose and Jose Maria live, and who were they married to? I haven’t seen Montellano nor Monteyano in Pinos nor Ojuelos, but I have seen Montejano. Most of the families with that surname  living in Pinos during the 1700’s descend from Phelipe Antonio Ramirez Montejano and Paula Francisca Lopez de Avila, who petitioned marriage on 24 Jun 1729 in Pinos. He was born in Mexico City around 1705, son of Antonio Ramirez Montejano and Juana de Torres, and she was daughter of Juan de Avila and Juana de Trujillo. They had about 7 children, born between 1730 and 1750, who ended up living in Pinos, Ojuelos and in San Felipe, Gto. This family originally used the compound surname Ramirez Montejano, but most of their children dropped the “Ramirez” and went with “Montejano.”

I hope you find this useful!

Sandra,

In case you didn't have this information -

Pedro Vicente Maciel married to Juana Maria Alvares was the son of Juan Maciel Blancarte y de Ayala Saavedra and Marcela de Rojas y Rodas.

Juan Maciel Blancarte y de Ayala Saavedra was the son of Nicolás Maciel Blancarte and Gertrudis de Ayala y Saavedra who were from Chilchota, Michoacán.

I also descend from Nicolás Maciel Blancarte and Gertrudis de Ayala y Saavedra through their daughter Anna de Liébana who married Alonso Galván de Rojas y Trujillo the son of Hernando Galván de Rojas and Anna Trujillo.

Marcela de Rojas y Rodas was the daughter of Alonso Galván de Rojas y Salcedo and Luisa González de Rubalcava y Rodas married 2 Mar 1653 in Lagos de Moreno.

Alonso Galván de Rojas y Salcedo was the son of Alonso Galván de Rojas and Juana de Salcedo. I also descend from them since they are the parents of Hernando Galván de Rojas.

Luisa González de Rubalcava y Rodas was the daughter of Fulgencio González de Ruvalcaba y López

Trevino or Temiño that is the question!

So I was doing my usual researchy thing online looking at struggle lines like Diego de Trevino when I happened up a few older research documents you guys find interesting to add to your stash.

The entomology of the name was fascinating to me so I decided to see what towns they were actually referencing in Spain. So indeed I looked up Temiño, Spain.  It is an fact a real town and that is indeed the way it is spelled. It is also the town where the references "Don Alfonso Ruiz de Temirio y Doña Sancha de Velasco".  Even in the old research docs the the spelling varies. These are the ancestors that Baltasar Temiño references to prove his noble lineage in Zacatecas.

So while spelling would vary depending on the scribe and their educational and cultural background it is now evident to me that Baltsar Temiño is indeed a Temiño NOT Trevino. Now it could be that the town of Temiño could have old ties to the Condes de Trevino and they are from another branch they however achieved their "grandee

Esteban’s  parents are Trinidad Munoz (Jose George de la Trinidad Munoz de Lopez Nava) and Teodocia Losa.

Welcome to our group!   You list Pablo Munoz (born around 1886 in Jalisco) as the son of Esteban Munoz (Guerra) and Enedina Ramirez.  You also list Esteban as the son of Francisco Munoz and Hipolita Guerra.  Esteban Munoz Guerra was baptized 3 ago. 1889 (3 Aug 1889) Señor de la Ascensión, Unión de San Antonio, Jalisco, México. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-GR9H-H?cc=1874591&wc=3J6X-16N%3A173503201%2C173503202%2C173770403 : 16 February 2017), Unión de San Antonio > Señor de la Ascensión > Bautismos 1888-1890 > image 231 of 382

Unless there were two Esteban's within the same family, I do not believe Francisco Munoz Gutierrez and Hipolita Guerra were Esteban's parents.

However there is a Esteban Munoz (Lopez Nava)  that married Celerina Ramirez on 10 Feb 1879 in San Miguel el Alto. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-GTXP-J?cc=1874591

Esteban was listed as from Saucillo (Jalisco).  I believe Celerina was from Derramadero (Jalisco). I noticed Enedina was

Hello, finally got around to looking into it. I think you are correct. The discrepancy that I found is like you said. I have found 3 different names for Enedina, Celerina, and Senorina. I have also seen 2 different spellings for Esteban vs Estevan.

I have also found little to no information regarding my paternal grandparent Salvador Muñoz whose parents were Pablo Muñoz and Virginia Anda.

I only found 1 baptism record of my aunt (still living so won’t name her) in Teocaltiche, Jalisco that names my grandfather Salvador Muñoz. Her parents (my grandparents) Salvador Muñoz and Alicia Castilleja.

    Thanks!

    Buitrón Mujica from Celaya

Hi, I am fairly new to this forum so please excuse me if I do something wrong.

I have several ancestors from the Celaya area, and I am wondering if anyone has information about the parents of Pedro Buitrón Mujica AKA Pedro Vallejo born c.1700 in Celaya and married to Catarina Tena Padilla in 01/FEB/1736 in Celaya.
I am aware he is a "clandestine" son of Francisco Buitrón Mujica, and from the glances I was able to find as previews from "Los Tena de Celaya" by Rafael Nieto y Cortadellas, it looks like his mother might be Manuela Vallejo García (Daugther of Diego Vallejo Torres and Juana García Diosdado), but I haven't been able to find documentation to confirm this, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have read in "Retoños de España..." and in this forum that Mr. hfaizcorbe, you are and expert in the region so I would love to know if you have any information regarding this family.

    Thank you in advance,

    Salvador Rivas

    1. No. 75.

    1. El Martín Alonso marido de María Delgado del Rincón, también llamada María González (hija de Domingo Santos -fallecido antes del 17 de octubre de 1590- y de Catalina González, fallecida antes del 2o de enero de 1609);

    2. El Martín Alonso, el Mozo, hijo de los anteriores y marido de Catalina Ramos (quien , en realidad, era hija de Juan Rodríguez y de Juana Ramos, y ésta hija, a su vez, de Francisco Ramos Adalid -originario de Medina del Campo, Castilla, muerto antes del 9 de diciembre de 1589- y de Catalina González- la del testamento otorgado el 26 de octubre de 1612-. La mención de Catalina Ramos en el documento del Link induce a pensar que era hija de la otorgante del testamento, pero era su nieta), padres de María Delgado, mujer de Juan de Buitrón Mujica.

I am very much interested in the history of the Hacienda de "Los Campos" since several of "our" Campos ancestors are residing there in the 1840 census. They are listed under the heading of Sn JPH.de los Campos. Does the manuscript include the whole area...we also have ancestors on Rancho de los Belas and Sn Buena Ventura.

You may have to break up the file into chunks as the web server will
not accept uploads of more than 2MB over HTTP... which is necessary if
it is to go into the secure part of the site. If you look at the
Tlaltenango Census document, you will see how the document was simply
split into several 1 to 2 MB chunks by pages.

This makes it easier to consult as well, since someone can download
portions at a time rather than having to wait for a huge file to
download every time they want to consult it. Let me know if you have
    any problems with it.

I've always wondered when and why Sánchez Román was added to Tlaltenango. I searched old posts in this forum but could not find anything. I came across a blog from 90+ yr old Luis Sandoval Godoy who shares surnames with many of us on this site. It was an interesting short read with some valuable info that I did not know.
